About Us:

THE EXTRAORDINARY STORY OF MOHAMMED’S INSPIRATIONAL JOURNEY

As the educational arm of Westminster City Council, Westminster Adult Education Service (WAES) is a world of extraordinary stories. From ESOL, English, Maths and Digital to Accounting, Community Learning, Childcare and Teaching and Languages to the Creative Arts and Culture, WAES’s courses offer unparalleled opportunities to grow, develop and acquire new skills. People like Mohammed work to inspire our residents to achieve their goals and enrich their lives through a huge range of stimulating and transformative learning experiences.

When he was 16 Mohammed came to London from a small town in the south of France and dived straight into the world of work. Once he’d found his feet and established himself, he decided he wanted to do some volunteering work and give something back to the community that had supported him on his first steps in the big city, so he approached WAES. They offered him a couple of hours a week for a few months, and he enjoyed it so much that when a temporary job in HR became available, he applied for it and was successful.

Fast forward a few years, and Mohammed is now working as a Funding and Compliance Manager, full time in the Management Information System department, and using his experience to encourage and inspire a new generation of Westminster citizens. As a member of the Kurdish community, he knows how difficult it can be to develop the skills, learnings and confidence to establish yourself in a new environment and is committed to sharing the story of his amazing journey, using it to illustrate how WAES can be a catalyst for positive growth and change.

Mohammed sees potential in everyone he meets, and is dedicated to encouraging people to grasp the opportunities they’re offered with both hands. And WAES is at the heart of Westminster’s commitment to helping everyone in our diverse communities to achieve their potential and transform their lives.

The Role:

As a Computing Tutor in our Adult Education Service, you can make your own powerful contribution to people across Westminster. Bringing a passion for helping adults build computing skills and knowledge, you’ll support learners to gain the confidence and technical skills they need to thrive in a digital-first world.

Acting as an expert source of advice and guidance, you’ll deliver high-quality, learner-centric teaching to a diverse group of adults — from those who have digital literacy, to those exploring more advanced computing and development topics. Your day-to-day will be varied and dynamic, including everything from preparing course outlines and lesson plans to coordinating resources and materials.

This is a part-time role that might include working evenings and Saturdays, so you’ll also need to bring some flexibility.

Please refer to the Job Description for more information.

About You:

An established professional with a teaching qualification at Level 3 or above, you’ll have relevant technical qualifications or deep industry knowledge in the following:

  • Microsoft 365.
  • Web development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript).
  • Software development fundamentals (e.g. Python, JavaScript, or similar).
  • IT Support and hardware and Networking.
  • Cybersecurity and online safety.

Having taught adults in a previous role — both face-to-face and online — you’ll have experience of using online e-portfolio systems for assessing and quality assessing work.

A true team player with excellent communication and classroom management skills, you’ll be capable of inspiring and motivating learners to reach their full potential, overcome barriers, and step confidently into a digital world.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join an inclusive, purpose-led team putting learners first, and to supercharge your career in the process. At WEAS, we’re proud to not just teach, but inspire. This role puts you right at the heart of that mission.
