Occupational Therapist - Fixed term role until 31st March 2027

Healthcare
£44,937 - £53,319 per year

Job Description

Be part of a team that cares about patients and cares about you

In Kensington and Chelsea, we support people’s independence and wellbeing and work hard to enable them to live in the community with dignity, choice and control. Our Community Independence Service (CIS) is a multidisciplinary team including social workers, occupational therapists and independent living assessors who work together to support to adults with complex health and social care needs. We provide short-term support for people discharged from hospital, or recovering from illness or injury, to help them develop the confidence and skills required to remain independent at home.

What you’ll be doing

At Kensington & Chelsea, we don’t just talk about person-centred care, we deliver it. Our OTs help to provide a service they can be proud of. We’ll look to you to assess people’s capabilities, using a variety of approaches, and to help them find the motivation and support to progress. You’ll also guide and mentor colleagues, including Independent Living Assessors, and promote a culture of learning. At every step you’ll have the full support of our close-knit community team.

For further details, please review the person specification and job description.

What you’ll bring

A qualified and registered Occupational Therapist, ideally with a community-based background, you’ll have significant experience of carrying out OT assessments for disabled people and their carers. As you’ll be dealing with people who have new diagnoses or injuries, you’ll need to be sensitive and empathic. At the same, you’ll need well-developed powers of persuasion, as success in this role depends on finding out what motivates each patient and then making sure progress is achieved. You’ll also need to be comfortable working with electronic case management systems.

Why join us

At RBKC, we’re all in – investing in our people, our communities and our future.

You will join a respected, supportive, and well-integrated team where your expertise is valued and your professional growth is a priority.

We provide significant opportunities for career development. You will work in an environment that prioritises your wellbeing and offers the chance to lead meaningful change within a developing and evolving service.

About us

Kensington and Chelsea is home to diverse communities, thriving businesses and unique local places. Everything we do is focused on supporting our residents, strengthening our approach and creating a fairer borough.

As a competent and caring Council, we take pride in our work every day, ensuring our services are delivered with care and competence. We listen to our residents, act with integrity and work together to build a borough that is greener, safer and fairer for all.

At RBKC, we’re all in — and your role will be too. Whether providing expert guidance in the community or mentoring colleagues, you’ll play a vital role in helping residents achieve greater independence through high-quality, person-centred care.

Position and Interview Details

This is a Fixed term role until 31st March 2027.

Interviews will take place on 18th August 2026.

This role will require the candidate to undertake an Enhanced Adults DBS and Adults Barred List.

Working Style:

You'll be based in the Borough for three days a week, playing a key role in serving the local community. The other two days a week we offer hybrid working from home. Whether you're working on the frontline or behind the scenes, you'll be part of a dedicated team making a real difference to residents' lives.

Ready to join us?

We’re all in – are you? If you share our values and have the skills to contribute, we’d love to hear from you.

Please apply online explaining how you meet the requirements set out in the person specification and job description.

We are a Disability Confident Employer – committed to ensuring that our recruitment and selection process is inclusive and accessible.

We are committed to fair, transparent, and consistent pay practices. New hires will normally start at the minimum of the pay scale. However, a higher starting salary may be negotiated where a candidate demonstrates exceptional skills, knowledge, or experience.

Employees receive annual salary increments until they reach the top of the pay scale, as well as any agreed cost of living pay awards.
