Job Introduction

Bus Champion – Travel Options

Full Time (37 hours) | 18 months - Fixed Term This is an externally funded role.

We are looking for a passionate and proactive Bus Champion – Travel Options to join our Transport Services team at Lincolnshire County Council.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in supporting children and young people to travel safely, responsibly, and independently. You will deliver transport education programmes, promote positive behaviour on school transport, and work closely with families, schools, and partners to enhance travel options across the county.

You will join a highly motivated team committed to achieving positive outcomes for children and young people across Lincolnshire.


About the Role

Supporting Children & Young People

  • Work directly with children and families to promote safe and independent travel
  • Assess individual needs and recommend appropriate transport solutions
  • Encourage confidence and independence through travel training and support

Education & Awareness

  • Deliver engaging transport education, road safety, and public transport awareness sessions in schools
  • Promote positive travel behaviours within educational settings

Behaviour & Transport Management

  • Encourage and reward positive behaviour on school transport
  • Support the management of behavioural issues in a constructive and proactive way

Partnership Working

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with schools, transport providers, and internal teams
  • Work collaboratively to improve outcomes for children and young people

Championing Independence & Innovation

  • Act as an advocate for independent travel across the service
  • Promote new approaches and ways of working to improve transport services


You will report to the Travel Options Senior and work alongside a team of experienced Travel Trainers. The team brings a wide range of expertise, including SEND support, safe walking routes, and public transport knowledge.

You will benefit from regular team catch-ups, providing opportunities to share knowledge, discuss challenges, and learn from each other’s experiences.


About You

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Passionate about supporting children and young people
  • A confident communicator with strong interpersonal skills
  • Experienced in working with families, schools, or community settings
  • Able to assess needs and make informed, child-centred decisions
  • Skilled at building positive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Organised, proactive, and solution-focused


Desirable:

  • Experience in transport, education, SEND, or public services
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and behaviour management
  • Experience delivering training or workshops
