As an 'Outstanding' Local Authority, we believe in pushing boundaries and delivering excellence for children and families. Our vision is clear, and our social workers are unwavering in their commitment to putting children and families at the centre of their practice.

What is the job role?

This is a unique opportunity to join us as a Senior Practitioner in the Children and Family Initial Response Service on a part-time basis for 2 days a week for an initial 12-week trial basis that will be reviewed to determine if this can be extended or become a permanent position.

We have recently been awarded Outstanding from Ofsted and are looking for someone who would like to support us to continue improving our service.

You will assume a crucial role in managing and delivering effective and efficient services for children, young people, and their families.

Your responsibilities include providing professional supervision, adhering to Social Work England's code of practice, and contributing to team development. Flexibility and commitment to working outside office hours are essential to meet the diverse needs of families.

As a Senior Practitioner, you will be responsible for:

  • Assessing and managing risk in complex and urgent situations.
  • Providing professional advice and guidance to other agencies and professionals.
  • Supervising and supporting other staff members in the team.
  • Ensuring high standards of practice and record keeping.
  • Contributing to the development and improvement of the service.

All candidates must have the Right to Work in the UK. We are currently not offering sponsorship for this role.

This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

Who are we looking for?

You will be an inclusive leader who values diversity and promotes a culture of respect, collaboration and continuous improvement and is committed to creating an environment where every individual feels valued and supported.

Within our team, men and people with a disability are currently under-represented across our middle-management team; as a result, we would like to encourage both men and people with a disability to apply for this post. This does not prevent any other applicants with a protected characteristic or a non-protected characteristic from applying.

You will be committed and passionate about practice, sharing learning and knowledge and developing others.

You will be a qualified and experienced Social Worker who has:

  • A current registration with Social Work England.
  • A sound knowledge of relevant legislation, policies and procedures.
  • A proven ability to work under pressure and make sound decisions.
  • Knowledge of assessment methods, care management and casework methods.
  • Experience of carrying out a range of statutory work in childcare/child protection.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with children and young people and families

For an informal conversation about this challenging and rewarding role, please contact Jacqui Smith – Team Manager – jacqueline.smith@coventry.gov.uk

  • Members of the Armed Forces and veterans
  • Are currently in care or have previously been in care
  • If you consider yourself to be disabled or if you have a long-term health condition
