Pest Control Technician

Pest Control Technician

Environmental
£28,980 - £37,914 per year

The role

Southwark Council’s Pest Control Service provides an essential frontline service to residential and commercial customers across the borough, helping to protect homes, businesses, and public spaces from pest-related issues.

As a Pest Control Technician, you will be responsible for carrying out inspections, investigations, and treatments for a wide range of infestations, including rodents, insects, birds, and other environmental pests. Working across a variety of settings, from council housing and private properties to parks and commercial premises, you will assess issues, identify the most effective treatment plans, and carry out pest proofing works to help prevent future infestations.

This is a varied and practical role where you will manage your own workload, respond to service requests, and provide professional advice and support to residents, businesses, and internal teams. Alongside delivering treatments safely and in line with legislation, council policy, and industry best practice, you will maintain accurate records, use mobile technology to support service delivery, assist with stray dog collection and pigeon proofing activities, and contribute to the continued growth and development of the service as it expands to reach a wider customer base.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Carrying out inspections, surveys, and investigations to identify pest infestations and determine the most effective treatment solutions.
  • Delivering a wide range of pest control treatments and proofing works across residential, commercial, and public spaces in line with legislation and industry best practice.
  • Managing and responding to service requests independently, providing a fast, effective, and customer-focused frontline service.
  • Advising residents, businesses, and internal stakeholders on pest prevention, environmental improvements, and long-term control measures.
  • Completing accurate reports, maintaining service records, and using mobile technology to support efficient planning and compliance.
  • Supporting wider service activities including stray dog collection, pigeon proofing, and out-of-hours emergency call-outs as part of the standby rota.

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for a qualified and knowledgeable Pest Control professional who can deliver high-quality frontline services with confidence, professionalism, and care. You will bring hands-on experience in pest management, strong technical expertise, and the ability to work independently while providing excellent customer service across a varied and demanding operational environment.

  • Qualified to BPCA Part 1 & 2 / Diploma in Pest Control, RSPH Level 2 in Pest Management, or equivalent.
  • Practical experience in delivering pest control treatments, including the safe use of baits, traps, poisons, and specialist equipment.
  • Strong understanding of pest control legislation, health and safety requirements, and industry codes of practice.
  • Experience of providing clear advice and guidance to customers, with a professional and solution-focused approach.
  • Confident working independently, managing your own workload, and making sound decisions on treatment methods.
  • Able to maintain accurate records, prepare reports, and use mobile technology and digital systems effectively.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to assess infestations and identify practical long-term solutions.
  • A full UK driving licence and the ability to work at heights and in confined spaces as part of service delivery.
