Contract: Permanent
Hours: 37 hours per week

About the role

We’re looking for experienced and motivated Senior EHC Coordinator to join our School Age Statutory SEND Service based in Apsley, Hemel Hempstead.

This position specialises in holding a caseload, with a particular focus on special school cases. You’ll model excellence in casework practice, champion person‑centred approaches, and ensure strong communication with families, schools, and partners.

You’ll champion person‑centred practice, strong communication, and high‑quality EHC plans, ensuring statutory timescales and performance standards are met. You’ll provide supervision, oversee induction and training, and build positive relationships with families, schools, and partners.

  • Hold a specialist caseload, including children and young people placed in special school settings
  • Oversee the quality and timeliness of EHC plan review paperwork.
  • Lead statutory SEND casework within a defined locality.
  • Build strong locality‑based relationships with education settings and partners.
  • Provide day‑to‑day line management to EHC Coordinators and Review Officers.
  • Formal supervision and staff development (PMDS).
  • Induction, training, and ongoing professional development for staff.
  • Accurate record‑keeping and database management.
  • Contribution to quality assurance, policy development, and service improvement.
  • Participation in cross‑county management groups.

About You

  • In-depth knowledge of SEND legislation and statutory guidance, including the Children and Families Act 2014, SEND Code of Practice, and SEND Regulations, with the ability to interpret and apply these effectively in practice.
  • Previous experience with casework management
  • Proven experience in leading and managing staff, with a track record of delivering excellent service outcomes.
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to work under pressure, managing competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across education, health, and care services.
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent, or significant experience within education or SEND-related roles.

If you have an unrelenting drive to ensure excellent outcomes for children with special educational needs and disabilities, and you can motivate and manage a team to achieve this – this may be your perfect role!

Benefits of working for us

Grow with the Hertfordshire SEND Academy

We’re proud winners of the 2025 Children & Young People Now Workforce Development Award recognising our commitment to professional growth.

You’ll receive training to prepare you for your role via our award-winning Hertfordshire SEND Academy, along with a generous pay and benefits package.

Office-Based Working Expectations During Your Induction
For the first four months of employment, all new staff are expected to work from the office full-time, five days a week. This ensures full participation in the induction programme, including training and casework activities essential for successful completion of probation. Following the induction, consideration of hybrid working arrangements will be discussed - typically, this involves working from the office two days per week, with the remaining three days spent working remotely, including school meetings, visits, and other duties.

Do rewarding work that really matters

Your role will support children and young people with SEND to access education and support. The work is highly process‑driven, involving interaction with parents and professionals, but little or no direct work with children and young people. The work can be challenging, but is also very rewarding.

Join our team as we strive for better outcomes for children and young people with SEND and their families by continuing to improve the effectiveness and reach of our statutory SEND services.

How to apply

As part of your application, please upload your most recent CV. Ensure your CV is up to date with your employment history (including any employment gaps), and including any training/qualifications. We encourage you to include examples of where you have demonstrated the requirements/criteria in the advert / job profile to allow the panel to fully recognise your skills and abilities. You will have the opportunity to include a short covering paragraph within your application to give us a little more information about your skills, knowledge, and experiences.

Additional information

We are changing
Hertfordshire County Council is undergoing Local Government Reorganisation (LGR). If you are employed by Hertfordshire County on 1 April 2028, it is expected that most roles will transfer to the newly-created unitary councils on existing terms and conditions under TUPE (Transfer of Undertakings – Protection of Employment) principles.

LGR is one of the biggest changes we will face in a generation. It will reshape how we work and how services are organised and gives us a real opportunity to build something better. To find out more, visit https://www.hertfordshire-lgr.co.uk/

Disability Confident
We are proud to be a Disability Confident employer and guarantee an interview to anyone disclosing a disability whose application meets the minimum criteria for the post.

Safeguarding
This role has been identified as requiring a Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check.

Driving required
You’ll need to have the ability to drive and/or travel around Hertfordshire, either using your own mode of transport or a company car to travel to other locations.

English Fluency
The ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the post (for those whose language is a signed language the provision of a sign language interpreter who speaks English to the necessary standard of fluency will be required). Further information about the legal requirement can be found here.
