Job summary

Vehicle Technicians across the Army have a keen eye for the finer detail, are enthusiastic about delivering the highest level of standards, all whilst working as part of a team to deliver results as efficiently as possible to meet our customer's expectations.

The successful applicant will be part of a small but lively team supporting vehicle maintenance, recovery and equipment care of a wide range of vehicles, including armoured tracked and wheeled vehicles.

Applicants who do not meet the required standard may be offered at a lower level position (Skill Zone 3).

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week with the exciting opportunity to achieve that with a flexible approach.

Job description

As a Vehicle Technician, you will service and repair all systems within the vehicle including engine and exhaust systems, air brakes, air conditioning and electronics. Work will range from replacing parts, to solving complex faults using diagnostic methods and equipment. With evermore complex technologies, the tasks are constantly changing. As a qualified Vehicle Technician in servicing and maintaining light or heavy vehicles you will continue to develop your trade knowledge on tracked vehicles and specialist artillery specific equipment.

Key responsibilities:

  • Inspection and confirmation sign off regarding Q&A (Quality & Assurance) of critical vehicle systems post repair of own work and that of others within the workshop environment.
  • Carry out a variety of maintenance and repair work on various military equipment.
  • Visual inspections and care of military vehicles
  • Completion of all relevant documentation
  • Working with experienced System Technicians on more complex and extensive diagnostic and repair tasks
  • Ability to work in a team and as an individual
  • Ensure that appropriate quality standards are achieved and maintained in all aspects of work with the interpretation and application of regulations and conditions where required
  • Comply with regulations published under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974
  • Carry out all aspects of mandatory training including Information Management Training and JAMES Training (an asset management tool) as required by role.

Person specification

Essential skills:

  • Full UK Driving Licence is required
  • NVQ 3 or equivalent in light or heavy vehicle mechanical qualification or VM Class 1 or Tri-Service Equivalent
  • Passion and interest in vehicles and engineering
  • Motivated and a team player
  • Good attention to detail
