Drainage Maintenance Manager

Drainage Maintenance Manager

Maintenance
£47,990 - £53,446 per year

What will you be doing?

Kent County Council maintains 8,700km (5,400 miles) of highway network and has a drainage network consisting of 250,000 roadside drains, 250 ponds and lagoons and over 8500 soakaways. Our local highway network is the most valuable asset we own in Kent, with a replacement value of around £24 billion. It plays a vital part in delivering council objectives by enabling safe and reliable journeys around and through the county. In doing so, it supports social wellbeing and economic prosperity. It is also essential for emergency services to execute their work: policing, healthcare, fire, and emergency response provision all require an effective highway network. These services are a key part of a functioning society and cannot exist without well-maintained and well-managed highway assets.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual to join the team as a Drainage Maintenance Manager. This is a full-time position with a starting salary of £47,990. We are looking for an enthusiastic and capable individual to join an essential operational team responsible for maintaining drainage assets across the county. Working at the heart of frontline service delivery, the role involves close collaboration with highways colleagues and a wide range of internal and external partners to help keep the network safe, resilient and functioning effectively.

The Drainage Maintenance Manager is the accountable officer for the provision of highway drainage maintenance and emergency response, ensuring an efficient and consistent service is delivered across the whole County in accordance with the Council’s Approach to Highways Asset Management and Risk Based Service Levels. You will need to be an excellent team player and be able to establish good working relationships with a variety of teams and stakeholders to deliver great customer service. This post is also responsible for processing customer correspondence via the KCC complaints process.

The right person will be able to demonstrate the motivation, commitment, and drive to

  • Manage and deliver a programme of work
  • Lead Flood event/emergency response
  • Provide effective team leadership and staff management
  • Manage budgets
  • Manage high level complaints
  • Liaise with Cabinet Members, Parishes, public plus deal with media enquiries

As a forward-thinking highway authority, Kent County Council is continuously looking at innovative better ways of working. Technology is becoming more integral to the way in which we deliver our service. The successful candidate must therefore possess excellent IT skills, demonstrating their proficiency with the Microsoft 365 suite of applications. Further details are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.
