Location: Force Headquarters / London Hub, 200 Buckingham Palace Road, London

Type of Working Arrangement: Blended approach of home and office-working is available, however, the successful candidate must be willing to travel into our London office regularly for clinics and other BTP locations from time to time.

The Opportunity:

Are you an experienced Occupational Health Physician looking for a unique opportunity to make a real difference within a National police force?

British Transport Police (BTP) has an exciting opportunity for an Occupational Health Physician to join our Occupational Health team.

As an Occupational Health Physician, you will provide expert clinical leadership and specialist occupational health advice, helping to support the health, wellbeing and operational effectiveness of over 5,000 employees across the organisation. You will play a key role in preventing work-related illness and injury, supporting complex case management, fitness for work assessments, health surveillance programmes and broader wellbeing initiatives.

Working alongside Occupational Health professionals, senior leaders and wellbeing specialists, you will help shape and influence occupational health practice across BTP, ensuring services are evidence-based, compliant with current legislation and aligned with organisational priorities. You will also lead medical supervision and support programmes, contribute to policy development and support projects that enhance the health and wellbeing of our workforce.

What you'll be doing:

  • Providing expert clinical leadership and occupational health advice that supports the wellbeing, safety and operational effectiveness of our workforce.
  • Managing a varied caseload of occupational health assessments, case management referrals and health surveillance activities, delivering evidence-based recommendations and reports.
  • Supporting employees, managers and senior leaders with complex occupational health issues, including workplace adjustments, capability matters and ill-health retirement cases.
  • Driving improvements in Occupational Health services through policy development, stakeholder collaboration and the delivery of wellbeing, health and safety initiatives across the organisation

What you'll bring to the team:

  • GMC Specialist Registration in Occupational Medicine (or eligibility for entry), a current licence to practise, and Membership of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine (or equivalent occupational medicine specialist qualification), with a commitment to continuing professional development.
  • Significant post-qualification Occupational Health experience, including managing complex cases, providing expert clinical advice, producing high-quality occupational health reports and supporting multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication, influencing and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage confidently with employees, managers, senior leaders and healthcare professionals, providing clear and evidence-based recommendations.
  • Extensive knowledge of Occupational Health legislation, best practice and risk management principles, alongside experience handling confidential information, maintaining accurate records and supporting workplace health and wellbeing initiatives

Additional Information:

  • Must apply and promote the College of Policing Code of Ethics and Integrity principles
  • The successful candidate must be able to reflect and hold themselves to account for performance and behaviours
  • The successful candidate will be required to travel and work from various internal & external locations on BTP business
  • As a practising clinician the expectation is you will be a member of the Medical Defence Union
