About Haringey

Haringey is a fantastic place to live and work – the world in one borough. A place brimming with creativity, personality, radicalism, and community. It is a place where we stand up for each other. A place that is proudly distinctive. We’ll be celebrating all this and more as the “rebel borough” when we are the 2027 London Borough of Culture.

Our history champions change-makers and everyday rebels; revelling in our differences, battling discrimination, championing equality, and doing things our own way. Haringey’s people are a huge asset, with knowledge, expertise, and passion. Our staff members embody our organisational values: Caring, Creative, Courageous, Collaborative and Community-focused. These values keep us looking forward, ambitious for the future, and continuously striving to do our very best for all of our residents.

About the role

We are seeking a qualified and passionate Teacher of the Deaf to join our Sensory Support Team, supporting deaf children and young people aged 0-25 across Haringey and Enfield. In this rewarding role, you will manage an allocated caseload, providing specialist teaching, assessment, advice and support to children, families, schools and early years settings. You will play a key role in improving educational outcomes, promoting inclusion, supporting transitions, contributing to EHC assessments and reviews, and developing the confidence and competence of young people using audiological equipment. Working collaboratively with a range of professionals, you will help ensure that every deaf child has the opportunity to thrive and achieve their potential

About the team

The Sensory Support Team delivers specialist services for children and young people with hearing impairments across both Haringey and Enfield through a long-standing partnership arrangement. The team is made up of experienced Teachers of the Deaf, a Deaf Communication Specialist and other sensory professionals who work closely with schools, families, health colleagues and SEND services. Together, the team is committed to raising awareness of deafness, promoting positive self-identity, enhancing inclusion and ensuring high-quality support across educational settings. You will join a collaborative, supportive environment where professional development is encouraged and where innovation, partnership working and excellent outcomes for children are at the heart of everything we do.

About you

You will hold a UK teaching qualification and a mandatory Teacher of the Deaf qualification, together with evidence of ongoing professional development and specialist knowledge of audiological equipment and amplification technology. You will bring substantial successful teaching experience with deaf children and/or children with SEND, alongside experience of working effectively with families and multi-agency professionals. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be able to work independently and manage competing priorities and demonstrate up-to-date knowledge of audiology, hearing aid and cochlear implant technologies. A strong understanding of SEND legislation, inclusion, safeguarding and child protection is essential, as is the ability to build positive relationships with schools, health professionals, parents and carers. Experience of providing consultancy to schools, delivering training and supporting children with complex needs would be advantageous.

Working for Haringey

At Haringey Council we are committed to creating a workplace culture where all our people feel valued, included, and able to be their best at work, and we recognise the benefits of a diverse workforce so welcome applications from all ethnicities and communities so that we continue to make a difference to our residents and community.
