Job summary

Opportunity to use your proven health and safety expertise to champion a positive health, wellbeing and safety culture within the Housing Ombudsman Service (HOS) and drive governance, assurance and continuous improvement.

The Housing Ombudsman Service provides independent, impartial and fair dispute support and resolution services for nearly 5 million households in England.

The Health & Safety Business Partner role sits within our People function which is responsible for delivering end to end employee lifecycle services to staff and managers.

Job description

As Health & Safety Business Partner, you will play a key role in shaping and steering HOS health & safety policy framework, procedures and risk assessments to ensure legislative compliance, leading on the co-ordination of risk assessments, control measures and policy implementation and providing expert guidance to managers.

Specifically, your role will include:

  • developing our health and safety policy, overseeing its implementation throughout the organisation, and continuously monitoring and reviewing;
  • engaging with the Senior Leadership Team to drive a positive and pro-active health and safety culture;
  • developing an understanding of, and delivering related initiatives and process for ensuring positive health and safety outcomes for a dispersed workforce;
  • identifying and assessing key risks, determining adequate control measures and ensuring these are implemented; and
  • managing technical compliance and assurance requirements, reviewing audit conclusions and reporting to SLT.

Person specification

Key requirements include:

  • proven experience of, and knowledge and understanding of the application of, health and safety law, standards and guidance;
  • demonstrable experience of conducting suitable and sufficient risk assessments by identifying hazards, who is at risk, level of risk, control measures to be implemented and residual risk and implementing a system of monitor and review;
  • a successful track record of persuading and influencing at senior levels to drive improvements in health and safety; and
  • experience in the use of audits, inspections and assurance checks to drive continuous improvement.
