    Job introduction

Job title: Health Determinants Research Collaboration (HDRC) Community Involvement Support Officer

    A bit about us:

Liverpool is home to vibrant, energetic, and engaged communities, people who take real ownership of their local area and are passionate about making our city a better place. We've got ambitious targets to meet and we need people who are driven, dynamic and ready to deliver the very best for our communities. Public service is more important than ever, and this role represents a real opportunity to make a difference to our communities by transforming the way we work and placing our residents at the heart of everything we do.

Working at Liverpool City Council provides an opportunity to contribute to your community and make a positive impact on the lives of residents. Our values shape how we work to deliver public services, and how we communicate with the residents we serve. We care about the best outcomes for local people, through our public services.

We are proud of our world-famous thriving city with its rich culture, as well as affordable housing, good schools, beautiful green spaces – there’s really something for everyone!

This is an exciting opportunity to join Liverpool City Council’s (LCC) Health Determinants Research Collaboration (HDRC). Liverpool is one of only 30 councils across the UK pioneering this new investment from the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) into local government, the programme commenced in January 2024 and will run for a period of 5 years. HDRC Liverpool will boost research capacity and capability within LCC. It is a transformational change programme aimed to embed a culture of always using evidence when making decisions. There will be a central focus on reducing health inequalities and evaluating action to improve the conditions in which people in Liverpool live, work and play which have a huge influence on our health and wellbeing. This will lead to overall improvements in health outcomes and a narrowing of the health divide within the city.
HDRC Liverpool is led by Liverpool City Council but is a partnership between the Council, the University of Liverpool (UoL), Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU), Liverpool Healthwatch and Liverpool Charity and Voluntary Service (LCVS) and our local communities.

The Community Involvement Support Officer will work as part of a busy Community Involvement team and you will play a key role in providing administrative support to the HDRC Liverpool Community Involvement team.

You will provide pastoral, practical, and administrative support to Community Researchers (CRs) engaged in HDRC Liverpool projects. This role ensures CRs feel included, supported, and safe, while managing operational processes such as onboarding, supervision, safeguarding, and payment. The postholder will act as a consistent point of contact, coordinate induction and supervision, and maintain compliance with safeguarding, data protection, and financial procedures.

The community Involvement Support Officer will also support the operation of HDRC Liverpool’s new digital storytelling platform by reviewing, moderating story submissions and escalating for approval to ensure they are safe, inclusive, and compliant with Council policies. While also support the broader Programme Team in support tasks as and when required.

    The role:

    • As a Community involvement support officer you will build research capacity and capability within Liverpool City Council
    • Develop a culture of evidence-informed decision making within Liverpool City Council
    • As a Community involvement support officer you will develop stronger research collaborations across the council, universities, and voluntary, community, faith, and social enterprise (VCFSE) sector
    • Involve and empower our local communities through the co-design, co-delivery, and co-dissemination of health determinants research
    • As a Community involvement support officer you will increase the amount of investment in Liverpool in relation to determinants of health research
    • Disseminate learning locally, regionally, nationally and influence policy making

This role is fixed term as forms part of the HDRC Programme Team which finishes December 2028, therefore this is when the role will end.

    Our offer to you:

    • At least 27 days holiday, plus bank holidays rising to 32 after 5 years’ service (pro rata if part time) - option to purchase further days
    • Agile working (role dependent) - a “Flexibility First” approach to agile working, where flexibility is the norm rather than the exception
    • Part of the Local Government Pension Scheme – option to join the AVC Scheme
    • Progression - opportunities and training through a wide range of high quality learning
    • Health and Wellbeing - offer including Employee Assistance Programme
    • Cycle to Work and Travel Pass Schemes
    • Drive Time – a salary sacrifice car lease scheme
    • Family friendly policies with enhanced leave
