<h4>Job summary</h4>Rail safety, strategy &amp; policy team delivers a range of policy, regulatory and corporate functions as well as providing strategic direction to RSD’s work through risk ranking and prioritisation. <h4>Job description</h4>We are recruiting a fixed term <strong>Operational Development Manager (ODM) </strong>to join the Railway Safety Directorate (RSD). As part of our Capability Team, reporting directly to the Capability Programme Lead, you will work alongside other ODMs and other RSD colleagues to deliver key aspects of our L&amp;D strategy for RSD. You will play a significant role in the development and delivery of our NEBOSH-accredited regulatory training programme (RTP) and technical training programme (TTP) for new trainee inspectors, specialist inspectors and inspector assistants. The training programmes can take 36 months to complete, and we may have multiple cohorts at different stages of the programmes. APHA is an executive agency of the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) and our remit includes identifying, managing, and controlling incidents and outbreaks of endemic and exotic diseases and pests in animals, plants, and bees. We provide unique capabilities and an evidence base for UK government, together with international reference responsibilities. The APHA Wildlife Department is a nationally important centre for wildlife disease management with multidisciplinary skills in epidemiology, statistics, and field ecology. The successful applicant will bolster the department’s role supporting Defra’s policy making and disease outbreak response activities.</p><p>In this role, you will be contributing to the production of advice for government policy and operational teams. This will involve building, maintaining or running models of disease systems that currently, or potentially could involve UK wildlife, and which can impact livestock and people. You will primarily be working with agent-based simulation models to explore the large-scale spread and control of disease, and you will also be collating ecological data on wild host species and disease transmission upon which the models are based. Some topics of current relevance include the investigation of control strategies for Bovine Tuberculosis and African Swine Fever, the epidemiology of zoonotic Lyssaviruses in bats and novel zoonotic diseases that may impact the UK.</p><h4>Job description</h4><ul><li>Designing and running bespoke computer simulation models to investigate disease and other issues concerning wildlife management<br><br></li><li>Writing reports, including collating and interpreting model output<br><br></li><li>Undertaking sensitivity analyses and error checking verification of models<br><br></li><li>Collecting ecological/epidemiological data for use in model development through literature review and in liaison with colleagues across APHA and elsewhere<br><br></li><li>The post holder will also be encouraged to communicate results and findings in peer-reviewed scientific journals and at national and international conferences</li></ul><h4>Person specification</h4><p>You will support the development of modelling capabilities within APHA’s Wildlife Department. You will be required to develop new and run existing computer simulation models and collate output for inclusion in reports to government policy teams. You will produce model documentation and check conformity to relevant quality assurance policies. <h4>Job summary</h4>Please refer to Job Description<h4>Job description</h4><p><strong>Overview of the job</strong></p><p>This is a specialist role within the National Security Division (NSD). </p><p>The NSD Specialist Probation Practitioner is required to manage people on probation (PoP) who are Terrorism ACT convicted, Terrorism ACT risk, Critical Public Protection Cases or Serious Organised Crime and pose serious and widespread risk. Management of this cohort is subject to enhanced national standards and intensive co-working with external agencies. </p><p>The NSD Specialist Probation Practitioner is required to provide specialist additional monitoring and contact to those assessed as posing a specific risk of further extreme offending which would cause serious and widespread harm. The NSD Specialist Probation Practitioner is required to do this through liaison with specialist external agencies and have oversight of targeted risk reduction work and intervention. The case load managed by the NSD Specialist Probation Practitioner poses a national security threat and high media profile. </p><p>The NSD Specialist Probation Practitioner reports to the NSD Senior Operational Lead.</p><p><strong>Summary</strong></p><p>The job holder will be expected to be a subject matter expert, directly managing counter terrorism, SOC and CPPC cases. The case load will be made specifically of cases who fall within this remit. </p><p>This work will take place in custody and community settings, as well as in multi- agency environments. The postholder will need to undertake additional specialist training to undertake certain roles, and be security cleared to SC level. </p><p>The postholder is required to cover a caseload across the entire divisional area, this will involve travel by car or public transport. Managing cases of high and very high risk of serious harm which fall under the categories mentioned above. This cohort will be supervised to enhanced national standards, meaning twice weekly contact and additional monitoring alongside regular liaison with external agencies and interested parties.</p><p><strong>Responsibilities, Activities &amp; Duties</strong></p><p>The job holder will be required to carry out the following responsibilities, activities and duties:</p><ul><li>Release planning for TACT, TACT connected/risk, complex cases, critical public protection and Serious Organised Crime cases using enhanced national standards.</li><li>Specialist case management including completion of OASys, response plans, trigger plans, EMS protocols, sentence planning and parole preparation and attendance as well as MAPPA referrals and attendance.</li><li>Appropriate and effective sharing of information and risk and specific briefings, including briefing approved premises staff, DDP mentors, Police, Prison and CTSPP staff to ensure all professionals are aware of risk levels and relevant information. Ensuring sensitive information is shared handled and stored appropriately.</li><li>Building and maintaining multi agency working relationships with external agencies and partners, crucial to appropriate and effective management of this cohort. Agencies will include but are not limited to DDP mentors, CTP, AP staff, children’s services, Local Policing. Job holders are required to have an awareness of these agencies’ cultures and processes and be adept at working with people on probation who have a history of splitting professionals.</li><li>Specialist support, advice and guidance to staff on all aspects of TACT/TACT connected and Terrorist risk offender management within APs and staff working in other settings and agencies e.g. mental health, children’s services.</li><li>Provide professional advice and assessment, including written reports to courts, the Parole Board, other criminal justice agencies and partner organisations.</li><li>Undertake prison, home or other alternate location visits as required. This involves travel by car or public transport across the whole allocated division. The role will work as part of a small team of Group Workers to provide an important rehabilitative service and meet the Government’s ambition of reducing re-offending. <p><strong>Summary</strong></p>The job holder will deliver a range of activities and programmes, which include assessment, group and individual treatment and provides support to wider rehabilitative activity within the prison. The post holder will be supported through training, career development opportunities and professional support. The post holder will be a member of the divisional training team in NPS or in HMPPS Wales. The post will be based within one of the NPS divisions or in Wales with some travel outside of that area</p><p>The post holder will report to the Divisional Training Manager/Deputy Divisional Training Manager. The training function is part of the HMPPS Learning &amp; Development Group.</p><p>The post holder works as part of the divisional training team to deliver probation qualifications at local level. This will include co-ordinating the needs of a group of learners and working with them individually and in groups both in the NPS and CRC.</p><p>Regular travel and some overnight stays are an integral part of this role. When required, PTAs will be expected to provide mutual assistance to other parts of HMPPS L&amp;D in order to meet the business need.</p><p>The role is a training function and the post holder will be required to apply their professional skills and specialist knowledge to ensure the effective delivery of probation qualifications and associated professional skills.</p><p>This post will not have line management responsibilities.</p><p><strong>Summary</strong></p><p>Co-ordinate and deliver all aspects of probation qualifications including brokering learning opportunities and monitoring the progress of learners based in NPS/HMPPS in England and Wales and in CRCs. Duties will include mentoring, assessment and coaching of learners in these organisations.</p><p>Assess VQ candidates in compliance with the requirements of the Awarding Body Design and deliver professional skills workshops</p><p>The post holder will be required to undertake quality assurance functions of learner work products and other quality functions dependant on business need. This project is in collaboration with the Institute for Cardiovascular and Metabolic Research (ICMR), School of Biological Sciences, at University of Reading. The student will also be required to complete two 3-month rotations in the wider MHRA within their first year allowing them to gain insight into public health research.</p><p>The project will be supervised by Dr Dina Vara at the MHRA, and by Prof Jon Gibbins and Dr Chris Jones at the University of Reading. The studentship is anticipated to commence on 28th September 2026. The studentship will offer a stipend, currently £22,780 per year and reviewed annually. </p><h4>Job description</h4><p><strong>About the Project</strong></p><p>Platelet transfusion is essential for the management of bleeding, trauma, and thrombocytopenia, yet reliance on short-lived, fresh platelets poses major logistical and clinical challenges. Lyophilised platelets (LPs) have been explored as a potential alternative since the mid-20th century, yet uncertainties remain regarding the extent to which platelet structure, function, and metabolic activity are preserved following freeze-drying.</p><p>Recent studies, alongside earlier exploratory work, suggest that trehalose-loaded lyophilised platelets (TL-LPs) can retain key haemostatic properties. However, the mechanisms underpinning this preservation and the degree to which TL-LPs recapitulate the structural and functional characteristics of fresh platelets remain insufficiently defined. Addressing these knowledge gaps is essential for advancing TL-LPs towards therapeutic, diagnostic, and quality-control applications.</p><p>This multidisciplinary PhD project aims to systematically investigate the impact of lyophilisation on platelet structure and function, with a particular focus on membrane integrity, haemostatic activity, mitochondrial stability, and long-term storage resilience. By building on emerging evidence in platelet preservation and biostabilisation, the project seeks to establish whether TL-LPs retain sufficient platelet-like properties to support their clinical translation.</p><p>The proposed research will assess the feasibility of using TL-LPs as functional platelet surrogates through comprehensive in vitro evaluation. Specific objectives include: (i) characterisation of membrane architecture and preservation of key platelet surface receptors following lyophilisation; (ii) evaluation of primary and secondary haemostatic function; (iii) assessment of mitochondrial integrity and metabolic responsiveness; and (iv) determination of TL-LP stability under varying storage durations and environmental conditions.</p><p>The successful candidate will gain extensive training in a wide range of laboratory techniques relevant to platelet biology, haemostasis, and biotherapeutic development. These will include advanced microscopy, flow cytometry, functional haemostasis assays, metabolic and mitochondrial analyses, and data interpretation using appropriate statistical approaches. As with all PhD projects, experimental strategies will be refined as the project develops, and new findings emerge.</p><p>The student will benefit from multidisciplinary supervision and access to state-of-the-art facilities across the University of Reading and the MHRA, providing a unique translational research environment at the interface of academic science and regulatory science. <h4>Job summary</h4><p>We are recruiting for an Assistant Head, Contract Management for the first-generation outsourcing, Army Collective Training Service (ACTS) contract. Collective Training is a high profile, critical service for the Army and the contract is expected to be let early in 2026. The contract value will be around £2.5bn, over a contract duration of 15 years. The team are responsible for the commercial contract management of a wide-ranging portfolio of work. This ranges from several very high-value and complex contracts, to those of medium duration, value or complexity, and to lower value, shorter duration contracts.</p><p>You will also be a member of the Army Commercial Extended Leadership Team. This role will be pivotal in leading a review of NMAC policy, supporting assurance activity with advice on policy application and working with stakeholders across MOD and with our suppliers.</p><p>This post is advertised at 37 hours per week.</p><h4>Job description</h4><p>NMAC policy exists to establish effective measures for accounting for and securing certain material critical to the current and future operation of the Defence Nuclear Enterprise. The core purpose of this role is to review, develop, publish, and maintain NMAC Policy. The role will also provide support to NMAC assurance activity. Additionally, the role will following the review and publication of updated policy support the development of standards and guidance related to NMAC and other security policy as and when required.</p><p>The role may also involve supporting other activities within the DNO Security &amp; Intelligence Division as required.</p><p>Key tasks of the post holder will include:</p><ul><li>Reviewing existing NMAC policy, standards and guidance.</li><li> Agree the scope and priority of the NMAC artefacts (policy, guidance, standards etc) required for development. </li><li>Propose and consult on updates and revisions to existing policy and other artefacts.</li><li> Develop policy that achieves outcomes that are equivalent to or better than that achieved in the civil sector including meeting the UKs obligations under the Non-Proliferation Treaty. </li><li> Working alongside the other teams in Defence to develop the NMAC capability that addresses optimisation and improvement recommendations. </li><li> Ensure and NMAC policy aligns to best civil nuclear practice. </li><li> Act as a security professional and role model, championing and sharing best practice throughout the DNO community, embedding security culture within DNO, and modelling Civil Service values to foster and develop the security profession across government.</li><li> Support the work of the wider Security &amp; Intelligence Division as required. </li></ul><p>Flexible and condensed working patterns can be considered for this post but due to security constraints the role is not suitable for hybrid working. <h4>Job summary</h4><p>This is a challenging and exciting role in which you will assist the Head of Member Liaison in providing leadership, guidance and advice services. The Member Learning and Engagement Manager is responsible for shaping and delivering a high-quality learning and an engagement programme for Members of the Senedd and their staff across Wales, under the guidance of the team leader. The role holder will oversee the development, management, and monitoring of training initiatives, ensuring they are relevant to all aspects of Members’ work, and oversees management of the budget and procurement for training requirements.
