As a Senior Public Health Specialist, you will work within a team of highly motivated public health staff, supporting the Director of Public Health to improve health outcomes and reduce health inequalities in Hackney and the City of London. You will be expected to be able to work across all domains of public health as and when required to do so and with additional training and support if necessary.
As part of our’whole system’ approach to tackling obesity, this fixed term role will lead the co-development, implementation and evaluation of a pilot programme of work to build workforce and community capacity to promote healthy weight. This will involve:
- Strengthening healthy weight competence and confidence among frontline staff and volunteers who support individuals at high risk of obesity, in various service and community settings
- improving awareness of, and access to, information about actions individuals can take to achieve and maintain a healthy weight
- Developing and implementing a plan to address and reduce weight stigma across Hackney and the City.
While based within a central team, the responsibilities of the role will be delivered through collaboration with colleagues across the two local authorities, health and voluntary sector partners, as well as directly with communities.
You will be educated to degree level and have significant public health knowledge and skills, acquired through training, experience or formal study. You will have a knowledge of the causes of ill health and inequalities, combined with a knowledge of public health principles and methodologies.
Applicants for this role will need to have a comprehensive understanding of the complex drivers of obesity and the multi-faceted response required to promote healthy weight. Expertise in community co-design/co-delivery and supporting wider services to embed health promotion in routine practice is highly desirable.

About the role
Do you have experience of delivering and supervising frontline operational services in a Street Cleansing or Waste Collection Service environment?&nbsp;
We are looking to appoint a Waste Management &amp; Street Cleansing OFFICER to join the service.&nbsp; You will be responsible for the daily schedule planning, deployment and supervision of teams to ensure that statutory obligations and service plans are delivered across the Borough.&nbsp; There will be a keen focus on the improvement of the local environmental quality and attention to detail is key when delivering Street Cleansing Services.
As part of the wider service, you will play a role in supporting the service to meet the requirements of the Environment Act 2021 regarding the roll out of simpler recycling principals and the implementation of food waste collections.&nbsp; Additionally, you will also support the continued promotion of the management of waste through reducing, reusing and recycling.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Portsmouth City Councils Housing Renewals service, which forms part of the Private Sector Housing Team. You will work proactively within the Housing Renewals team’s Home Improvement Agency service to support applicants through the adaptation process. Your role will include: •	Reviewing Occupational Therapist referrals and recommendations for adaptations, typically the removal of a bath and replacement with a level access shower. •	Visiting applicants’ in their home to assist with completing grant application forms to fund the required adaptations, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail. •	Communicating with the grant applicant and the Occupational Therapist (OT) about the process and the required adaptations •	Carrying out basic visual surveys—typically of bathrooms—and recording relevant notes based on the recommendations of the Occupational Therapist. •	Using these notes to prepare a simple plan and specification for the required adaptations using standard templates. •	Contact contractors to obtain quotes for the work. •	Track the progress of the works, communicating with the contractor and the grant applicant where necessary, and check that the adaptations are completed in-line with the specification. •	Complete forms to confirm the adaptations are finalised and meet the specification, and to arrange for the payment of the grant to be processed by others. This is a chance to join a well-established and supportive team and make a real difference to people’s lives in Portsmouth, Fareham and Gosport —a role that’s both meaningful and rewarding. Skills: •	Hold a full driving license, as driving is an essential part of the role. •	Have excellent people skills with the ability to talk to an array of people including vulnerable clients, contractors, and other professionals. You must have a calm, professional and empathetic manner to be able to understand the situations of our customers and other stakeholders and be able to communicate clearly and concisely with them. •	Have excellent literacy and numeracy skills and attention to detail. •	Experience of maintaining accurate case records, and ensuring that sensitive data is handled in line with information governance requirements. •	It would be desirable to have knowledge or experience of working with Housing Grants, specifically Disabled Facilities Grants, although this is not essential. •	Have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Packages (to include Word, Outlook, Excel) and databases (we will be using IDOX Uniform). Experience of using basic drawing programmes is also preferable. •	Have strong observational skills with the ability to take clear and accurate notes. •	Be highly self-motivated and able to organise and prioritise your own workload. •	Have a basic knowledge of building construction and home adaptations is desirable. •	The ability to converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken and written English is essential for the post •	Experience of reading and understanding policies with the ability to applying those policies to real life situations.

<li>We work with children who are at risk of offending or who have already offended to reduce the chances they will offend again and support them achieve their full potential.</li>
<li>In your role, you will have to write an assessment of the child and co-produce and intervention plan with them. All your work with the child has to be timely recorded.&nbsp;There is a lot of case management and record keeping is an essential part of our job.</li>
<li>We have a duty to safeguard our children whilst also protecting the public: safety assessments, safety management and safeguarding and welfare of the children we work with is an essential aspect of our role.</li>
<li>We work in a multi-agency team and context: we support children as part of a network so you must be good communicating with others to overcome barriers and achieve better outcomes for our children.</li>

Candidate Requirements

<li>There is an essential requirement for this role to have a&nbsp;qualification in Social Work, Probation Services or Professional Certificate in Effective Practice (PCEP). Consideration for candidates without qualification will only be on the basis of them being currently employed as a youth justice worker in another service and to have held that post for a minimum of 6 months. For this particular role, candidates with a Teaching Qualification will also be considered, as well as anyone who has current experience of working with children in schools.&nbsp; Candidates that do not meet this essential requirement will not be shortlisted.&nbsp;</li>
<li>You are knowledgable about the Child First framework, trauma informed approaches. It is also desireable that you have knowledge of relevant criminal youth justice legislation, National Standards for Children in Youth Justice and Youth Justice Board best practice guidance.&nbsp;</li>
<li>You are familiar with Restorative Justice and the support that victims of crime need.</li>
<li>You can relate and engage with children and families, who have often experienced trauma.</li>
<li>You have experience of working with partners to improve outcomes for children.</li>
<li>You are able to write in an analytical and critical way, interpreting and analysing facts to produce reports and assessments for different audiences.</li>
<li>You will need to work to tight deadlines, in a fast paced, varied and rapidly changing environment and keep accurate and timely records.</li>
<li>You will be dynamic, adaptable, resilient and responsive to change to legislation and guidance, the various aspects of your role and children's circumstances.</li>
<li>You will have the experience of and ability to processing significant amount of written information (i.e. legislation, frameworks).</li>
