<h4>Job summary</h4>In DESNZ, we are leading the Government’s focus on being a clean energy superpower by 2030 and accelerating our transition to net zero. Consequently, our commercial landscape is very broad across entity-to-entity contracts, First of a Kind (FAOK) investments in Hydrogen and CCUS, SMR Procurements amongst many others. This role will focus on being a critical friend to Policy colleagues at the early stages of policy exploration to test multiple commercial arrangements including contracts, grants, concessional finance, equity to deliver the policy objective, whilst looking to standardise and embed knowledge management across this space. This will include negotiation advice and design. It is an independent, arm’s length body (ALB) of the Home Office, reporting to the Home Secretary, under the terms of the Private Security Industry Act 2001. <h4>Job summary</h4><p>The SIA is the organisation responsible for the regulation of private security. It is an independent, arm’s length body (ALB) of the Home Office, reporting to the Home Secretary, under the terms of the Private Security Industry Act 2001. The SIA’s purpose is protecting the public through effective regulation of the private security industry and working with partners to raise standards across the sector. Its regulatory remit covers the United Kingdom. </p><p>The SIA has two main duties: the compulsory licensing of individuals undertaking designated activities within the private security industry and the management of a voluntary Approved Contractor Scheme, which measures private security suppliers against independently assessed criteria. </p><p>SIA licensing covers security operatives undertaking designated activities in guarding, door supervision, close protection, cash and valuables in transit, public space surveillance using CCTV, vehicle immobilisation (in Northern Ireland) and key holding. Licensing ensures that private security operatives are fit and proper persons who are properly trained and qualified to do their job. </p><h4>Job description</h4><p>Working within the SIA’s Compliance and Inspections function, you will be responsible for conducting effective investigations, inspections, and other compliance activity, to support the SIA’s purpose of protecting the public and raising standards. Responding to circumstances of regulatory offending, where the public may be placed at risk of harm or regulatory outcomes have been undermined, you will be tasked to conduct high quality investigations and enquiries to determine the most appropriate regulatory response. training required to become a fully qualified practicing barrister. </p><p><strong>Key Responsibilities: </strong></p><p><strong>During the first six months (Non-Practicing Period) you will be and other members of the Team. </p><p>· Assist and support your pupil supervisor and other members of the Team in the preparation of cases for court or tribunals. </p><p>· Accompany your pupil supervisor and other members of the Team to courts, tribunals or conferences to gain experience by observing and assisting them. </p><p><strong>During the second six months (Non-Practicing Period) you will be required to: </strong></p><p>· Meet providers and clients and conduct cases before courts and tribunals Undertake written work for your pupil supervisor and other members of the Team.</p><p>· Research the law and cases.</p><p>· Read witness statements, reports and all case papers.</p><p>· Offer legal advice and give opinions as required.</p><p>· Negotiate and conduct discussions out of court.</p><p>· Prepare legal arguments and documents for court hearings.</p><p>· Question witnesses and make submissions to judges and juries.</p><p>· Report back to providers orally and in writing the results of case and any issues that might need to be addressed. </p><p><strong>Generally, you will be required to: </strong></p><p>· Comply with the duties of pupils as set out in section 801 of the Code of Conduct for the Bar and Part V of the Consolidated Regulations. </p><p>· Register your pupillage with the Bar Standards Board prior to commencement. </p><p>· Comply with the requirements of the Pupillage Handbook. </p><p>· Complete the pupillage checklist throughout your pupillage, and particularly at the end of the first and second six months of pupillage. </p><p>· Submit certificates of satisfactory completion of your pupillage and completed checklists to the Bar Standards Board. </p><p>· Maintain a portfolio of work and a work diary. </p><p>· Complete compulsory advocacy training and the Practice Management Course. </p><p>· Plan and review pupillage activities with supervisors. </p><p>· Arrange and attend professional courses and activities as may be prescribed by the Bar Council and your Inn of Court. </p><p>· Maintain detailed records of all work carried out. </p><p>· Any duties as reasonably required by your pupil supervisor. </p><p>·
