ICT Technician (Traineeship – starting salary at 80% of Band G, with progression through the grade as qualifications and competency milestones are achieved)

Are you passionate about technology and looking to build a career in IT? We have an exciting opportunity for an ICT Technician Trainee to join our Digital, Data and Technology team and gain hands-on experience while working towards a recognised ICT qualification. In this role, you'll support the delivery of ICT services across the organisation, helping to maintain systems, support users, and contribute to projects that make a real difference to council services.

About the Role:

As a trainee, you'll receive structured development, mentoring and practical experience across a range of ICT disciplines including hardware, software, cloud technologies, networking and customer support. As your skills, experience and qualifications develop, you'll progress through the salary scale towards the full Band G rate and a qualified ICT Technician.

About the Candidate:

We're looking for someone with a genuine enthusiasm for technology and a desire to learn. You may be a school or college leaver, career changer, or someone looking to take the first step into an IT career. You'll be proactive, customer-focused and able to communicate effectively with a wide range of people.

You'll have:

  • A minimum of 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at Grade 4/C or above, including English and Maths.
  • An interest in IT, digital services, cloud technologies or networking.
  • Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • The ability to manage your workload, follow processes and work effectively as part of a team.
  • A commitment to completing a recognised ICT qualification as part of the traineeship programme.

No previous IT employment experience is required. We welcome applications from candidates who can demonstrate an interest in technology through education, work experience, personal projects, volunteering or hobbies.

Join us and develop the skills, qualifications and experience needed for a successful career in ICT while making a positive impact on services across the borough.
