The Role

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Sexual Health Commissioning Manager to join our Health and Care Public Health team. The H&C PH team are responsible for the commissioning of public health services to support the population of North Somerset with the aim to protect health, support health and wellbeing and addressing health inequalities that exist.

In this role, you will be responsible for leading on agreed work streams relating to sexual health, the post holder will contribute to planning, commissioning, developing, implementing and evaluating of a range of health improvement programmes that promote health and wellbeing, protect health, encourage healthy lifestyles and reduce health inequalities.

You will work on an agreed programme of service improvements linked to key national and local planning documents relating to sexual health. They will be responsible for implementing and embedding new ways of working as appropriate and contributing to service improvements, managing and/or collaborating with team members, professionals and wider partners.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, commission, deliver and/or evaluate services within the healthcare public health service area, ensuring compliance with the priorities of the Council and alignment with the Joint Strategic Needs’ Assessment and Health and Wellbeing Strategy 2025-2029, to improve health and wellbeing and reduce health inequalities.
  • Develop service specifications for relevant services based on analysis and interpretation of data, information, and published evidence, to determine programmes of intervention and support for population groups that address local needs.
  • Commission public health programmes and services that enable and support people’s sexual health, in compliance with procurement regulations and performance and evidence frameworks, ensuring value for money.
  • Contribute to the development of service improvements and relevant strategy within an integrated service plan.
  • Inform and/or develop a range of service policies, procedures, projects or improvements in alignment with service strategies to improve quality and outcomes and recommend changes to Service Lead.

Valid driving licence and own transport, or be able to provide alternative, suitable method of travel is an essential condition for this role.

This position is currently based at our Town Hall, Weston super Mare .

Work Style

  • Works both from home and the office, depending on the task at hand.
  • Training is provided to help balance work-life and manage time effectively, with an emphasis on communication for team touchpoints and planning in-office days for collaboration.

About You

We are looking for an individual who is passionate about Sexual Health and who possesses the following skills and experience:

Essential Criteria:

  • Degree level or equivalent qualification. Postgraduate qualification in a relevant discipline i.e. public health, healthcare.
  • Significant post qualification experience in relevant work area to give knowledge and understanding equivalent to a further advanced qualification in the service area.
  • Experience of successful service procurement and contract management in compliance with the relevant regulations and legislation.
  • Experience in service development and embedding improvements into work methodologies.
  • Practical experience of programme management, including establishing programme management arrangements, prioritisation and planning of complex activities, performance management and developing risk management strategies.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience of working as part of a system level commissioning model delivering integrated sexual health provision
  • Experience of managing Primary Care commissioned public health services.
