Job IntroductionWe’re recruiting two Sheltered Housing Team Leaders to join our Housing Operations team at Milton Keynes City Council.

Our Sheltered Housing service provides a dedicated, customer-focused offer that supports older and vulnerable residents to live independently, safely, and with dignity across our sheltered schemes. Working closely with colleagues and partner agencies, we help residents manage their tenancies, access support, and maintain their wellbeing.

As a Team Leader, you’ll play a key role in leading day-to-day operations across multiple schemes. You’ll guide and support a team of sheltered housing colleagues, ensuring a consistent, high-quality service that meets residents’ needs and keeps safety, compliance, and wellbeing at its heart.

This is a rewarding role where your leadership will make a real difference. You’ll help sustain tenancies, respond to complex needs, and work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners to improve residents’ quality of life. In doing so, you’ll contribute to stronger communities and help reduce pressure on wider health and social care services.

Sheltered Housing at Milton Keynes City Council is all about helping older residents feel safe, supported and independent in their own homes. Our colleagues build trusted relationships every day, and we make sure they’re supported to do this rewarding work well.

Take a look at the linked page for further information on the sheltered housing service and how it supports residents.

  • Coordinate day-to-day operations across sheltered housing schemes, ensuring compliance, service standards, and effective housing management delivery.
  • Deliver and oversee tailored housing management support, helping residents sustain their tenancies and maintain independent living.
  • Work closely with internal teams and external partners, including health, adult social care, and safeguarding services, to support resident wellbeing.
  • Manage risk, complaints, and low-level antisocial behaviour, developing support plans and taking appropriate action where needed.
  • Ensure health, safety, and compliance requirements are met while maintaining accurate records and overseeing contractors working within schemes
Ideal Candidate
  • A relevant housing, management, or related qualification, or equivalent experience gained in a similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of tenancy management and housing legislation, including regulatory requirements.

  • Confidence in leading and supporting colleagues, with previous experience of supervision or line management.
  • Sound judgement when managing risk, handling complaints, and responding to complex situations within a housing setting.
  • Clear and adaptable communication skills, with the ability to balance empathy and professionalism in a range of situations.
  • Confidence using IT systems, including Microsoft Word and Excel, to maintain accurate records and manage information effectively.

Milton Keynes City Council is a large, modern and financially stable employer with around 2,500 people working across our eight areas. Together we provide local residents and businesses with a wide range of important round-the-clock services and aim to make our city a better place to live.

We work hard because of the demands placed on us, like protecting children from harm or preventing homelessness. However, working for the city is always rewarding and everyone has the opportunity to make a real difference.

We welcome applications from individuals of all backgrounds and lived experiences. Milton Keynes City Council is committed to building an inclusive workforce that reflects the diversity of our community. We actively encourage applications from candidates who bring a range of perspectives, particularly those from underrepresented groups.
