About you….
To be successful you will need to be:

<li>Qualified in planning and with membership or eligibility of membership for the RTPI</li>

An exciting opportunity has come up within the Council's Development Management Team as a Planning Assistant.&nbsp; We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and committed individual who would like to start their career in Development Management in a busy Planning Development Service.&nbsp;
Candidates will benefit from a varied workload gaining experience in a number of areas of Development Management including Green Belt policy, flood plain, heritage and National Landscape.&nbsp; &nbsp;
In this role you would:

You will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of planning enforcement files, including contentious matters that may require court attendance and participation in planning enforcement appeals, including inquiries. You will also be one of the key officers responsible for mentoring junior staff.&nbsp;&nbsp;
You will play a key role in the investigation and management of a wide range of planning enforcement cases, including cases of a contentious and complicated nature.&nbsp; You will be required to draft and prepare enforcement reports and notices, independently manage and represent the Council at enforcement appeals (including public inquiries) and the role may also require you to represent the Council in court proceedings.&nbsp; As set out above, the role will involve working with applications in the urban area, the Green Belt, National Landscape, on sites within conservation areas and which impact on listed buildings. &nbsp;In addition, you will be expected to assist with the mentoring of junior colleagues.

The Role
The Planning and Housing Strategy Team is looking to recruit a qualified and experienced Planning Policy Officer to come and join our team working alongside the Principal Housing Strategy Officer on housing strategy and planning policy matters and other lead professionals responsible for climate change, biodiversity and heritage.&nbsp; We are advancing a new Local Plan for Lancaster district.&nbsp; The council has a strong record of keeping its development plan up to date and is also nationally acclaimed for its innovative work on climate mitigation and adaption.

We are looking for a professional who can produce clear and comprehensive written work including key policy documents such as Development Plan Documents, Supplementary Planning Documents and Planning Advice Notes and writing reports.&nbsp;&nbsp; We are looking for a confident speaker with great presentation skills and work alongside other team members at stakeholder engagement and public consultation events as well as presenting complex information in a clear and concise way to a wide range of audiences.&nbsp;&nbsp;
Developing and maintaining working relationships with other professionals within the Planning and Climate Change service, other council services and external bodies is a pre-requisite in this role, and will include providing support to colleagues in the Development Management team so that planning applications are determined in a timely way with robust information provided on meeting local housing need and by supporting our colleagues in housing teams to realise the council’s housing and regeneration priorities for Lancaster district.&nbsp;
About You
You must have a degree or postgraduate qualification in town planning that is recognised by the Royal Town Planning Institute and have Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) Chartered Membership, or demonstrable equivalent experience to be eligible to securing Chartered Membership status.&nbsp; Alternatively, for post-holders with a housing qualification; Chartered Membership of the Chartered Institute of Housing (MCIH) or demonstrable equivalent experience to be eligible to securing Chartered Membership status. &nbsp;
You will already have at least two years’ of post-qualification experience in planning or housing, ideally within a planning policy or strategic housing environment and you will need to evidence a track record of working within a legislative/regulatory context and have a demonstrable understanding of assessing and meeting local housing needs.&nbsp;&nbsp; You must also hold a full UK driving licence.&nbsp;

The Role
The Council have decided to review its Local Plan. We need a Planning Policy Manager who can lead both the Council’s Planning Policy and GIS Team in successfully delivering a new Local Plan which will shape the district for years to come. About You

You’ll have an academic background in planning and will be a member of the Royal Town Planning Institute.
