Procurement
Full time
£31,659 per year

The starting salary for this position is £31,659 per annum, working 36 hours per week.

We have an opportunity to join our Procurement team as a Sourcing Solutions Officer. This role works on ensuring that the lower value requirements for Surrey County Council are sourced effectively and efficiently. In this role, you will work across all Directorates, supporting where necessary to provide sourcing by running compliant quote processes, tenders or drawing down from existing frameworks. This kind of process works at pace compared to the larger tenders in Procurement and as such the role is dynamic, dealing with lots of different stakeholders and types of sourcing.

We offer hybrid working with at least one day per week spent in the office.

Our Offer to You

  • 26 days’ holiday, rising to 28 days after 2 years' service and 31 days after 5 years’ service
  • Option to buy up to 10 days of additional annual leave
  • A generous local government salary related pension
  • Up to 5 days of carer’s leave and 2 paid volunteering days per year
  • Paternity, adoption and dependents leave
  • An Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) to support health and wellbeing
  • Learning and development hub where you can access a wealth of resources
  • Wellbeing and lifestyle discounts including gym, travel, and shopping
  • A chance to make a real difference to the lives of our residents

About The Role

Procurement plays a key role across Surrey County Council in terms of supporting how public money is spent well and making sure that it is spent both in a compliant way as well as obtaining best value from it – e.g. reducing carbon emissions and adding social value.

In this role you will work as part of a small team, that supports across the entire Council. This enables the team to learn together, share best practise and support each other effectively. Successful management of procurement projects is key as well as providing excellent customer experience for stakeholders across all Directorates.

Procurement is supporting Local Government Restructure (LGR) and there are many contracts that need to be transferred to our new unitary structures.

You don’t need to have worked in Procurement before to do this role. We welcome applications from all sorts of people with all sorts of experience, curiosity and a willingness to learn. We support all areas of Surrey County Council in a dynamic environment with a great team.

Shortlisting Criteria

In order to be considered for shortlisting, your application will clearly evidence the following skills and align with our behaviours:

  • Great customer service skills
  • Willingness to learn – and ability to act proactively
  • Great communication skills, written and oral
  • Team player who is approachable, willing to support and help to achieve Team and organisational goals
  • Understanding of public sector procurement and principles
  • Good project management skills

To apply, we request that you submit a CV and you will be asked the following 4 questions:

  1. Describe how you have planned and managed projects from start to finish, what were the objectives and how did you achieve them? Outline any lessons learnt from this project experience. (400 words)
  2. Explain your understanding and knowledge of public sector procurement and principles? (200 words)
  3. Describe how you manage your workload with conflicting priorities and tight deadlines? (200 words)
  4. Describe your experience of working in a team, including with people with diverse backgrounds. Explain the skills that make you an effective team member and what an inclusive working environment looks like for you, with examples? (300 words)
