The role requires staff to work 4 nights a week on a shift pattern rota, night shifts are from 9:45pm to 7:15am, shifts will include a combination of weekdays, alternate weekends and religious celebration days. The home will be closed on bank holidays unless we have an emergency admission. This shift-based role involves personal care/manual handling which can be physically demanding, domestic duties including preparation of meals and cleaning, medication administration, and report writing. Pinecroft invests heavily in the continued professional development of its staff, once you have completed your probation, we will offer the opportunity to gain the nationally recognised Level 4 children and young peoples and family’s practitioner residential pathway qualification.

About the Team/role We have an exciting opportunity for you to join our well established team as a Primary Mental Health Worker. Our Primary Mental Health Team (PMHT) in Reading was set up in 2008 to offer early intervention for children and young people who are at risk of developing serious mental health problems. Since then, we have further evolved and are now essential in filling a gap between early intervention Mental Health Support Teams (MHSTs) and more specialist Getting More Help (CAMHS) services.
We are a diverse and experienced team of practitioners with a range of evidence informed therapeutic backgrounds. Our team is integrated with the strong, established, and stable Educational Psychology Service (EPS), led by the Acting Principal Educational Psychologist.
We provide psychological therapies in schools and colleges and include systemic ways of working with children aged 5-18. We work within the Thrive model and have close relationships with the wider mental health teams as well as the social work, family, and youth work teams within Brighter Futures for Children. We ensure that children receive support at the Getting Help level, therefore preventing escalation to higher services, and we are proud to make a difference in children’s lives. We offer therapeutic interventions that are impactful and that lead to significant changes.
Our Primary Mental Health Team is also an integral part of the School Links Project which provides regular mental health surgeries within schools.
Our team also offers a range of relevant mental health training to parents and professionals to increase mental health awareness and preventative strategies.
This is an exciting time to join our team as we are involved in new developments within the wider service. We are co-developing a specialist therapeutic fostering service to ensure our cared for (CLA) Reading children stay closer to home, with foster carers who are individually supported to provide for their needs and life experiences. We are also working on a new emotional health triage system, which will have Primary Mental health at its heart. This will ensure that Reading’s children and families receive a coordinated partnership emotional health offer, to support children to access the right help at the right time. Our Adoption &amp; Permanence Service sits within our Children’s Social Care Service. The Service, brings together a number of our permanency services, including, but not limited to: • Permanency Planning for all Children Looked After aged up to 10 years. • Family finding for children with Care Plans of permanent fostering. • The assessment of Connected Carers and Special Guardians. • Supervision of and support to Connected Carers. • The provision of Special Guardianship Support Services. • The registration of Private Foster Carers and monitoring and supporting private fostering arrangements. • The management of the BFfC Permanence Allowance Scheme. • Liaison with our RAA and the day-to-day management of our RAA contract. • The provision of support and advice to social workers and managers across the local authority, with regards to achieving and maintaining permanent placements for Children Looked After. • The completion of Life Books and setting up of contact arrangements for adopted children. • The completion of Life Books for children permanently placed for long-term fostering.
The post holder will hold a caseload of the more complex cases being managed within the service. This will require them to have a high level of relevant knowledge regarding Children &amp; Families social work practice along with experience and skills in working with substitute carers, in particular Kinship Carers, including Special Guardians. This post holder will also need to be experienced and confident around giving evidence and managing cross examination in Court, and to have good working knowledge of the adoption process for Children Looked After.

About the RoleWe currently have opportunities for full time (37.5 hours per week) and part time (15 &amp; 22.5 &amp; 30 hours per week) Care Assistants to work within our registered care home, Litslade Farm (in Newton Longville), where we support people with learning disabilities.Working as part of a dedicated team, you’ll support service users with their day to day needs to enable individuals to lead independent and fulfilling lives.
