Job description
About the Litigation Delivery Teams
Litigation Delivery plays a vital role in supporting our client teams and expert services across the Litigation Directorate.
Government decisions are increasingly under scrutiny, with legal challenges arising from issues such as military action overseas, immigration policy, welfare reform, climate change, and energy policy. These cases often make headlines and involve matters of constitutional importance.
Our Litigation Directorate handles a wide range of high-profile public law cases, including judicial reviews in areas such as justice, health, defence, immigration, planning, and national security, as well as supporting the Government’s ambitious reform agenda.
We also manage substantial private law litigation for major Government departments, including the Ministry of Justice (MOJ) and Ministry of Defence (MOD). This work covers complex group actions, claims under the ECHR, personal injury, clinical negligence, misfeasance in public office, false imprisonment, and malicious prosecution.
Litigation Delivery Teams:
Litigation Delivery Teams (LDT) play a vital role in providing administrative and operational litigation support to key business areas across GLD. Each business area is supported by its own Litigation Delivery Team, comprising of Litigation Support Officers (LSOs) and Litigation Support Assistants (LSAs) led by a Litigation Delivery Manager. These teams form part of GLD’s wider legal support community of over 200 professionals, delivering high-quality administrative services that enable legal teams to manage cases efficiently and meet business priorities.
You’ll collaborate as part of a dynamic team, adapt to changing priorities, and help drive projects to completion within tight deadlines.
This role offers the chance to build confidence in managing a wide range of complex administrative tasks and gain a deep understanding of how Government Litigation operates in practice.

The Role
We are recruiting for Litigation Delivery Managers (LDMs) within our Legal Delivery Teams (LDTs) across Litigation Directorate. The role offers an exciting opportunity to operate in a wide-ranging, strategic role that provides interesting and challenging work, along with developmental opportunities. It would particularly suit those looking to enhance their organisational design and change management skills. The posts will involve working closely with Directors, Deputy Directors and a Legal Directorate/team. Teams can vary in size. All roles are within our LDTs and do not include any legal or paralegal work.
The successful candidate will work to a Senior Delivery Manager (SDM), ensuring that risks to the delivery of team/divisional objectives are identified, managed or escalated appropriately, and may also deputise in their absence. The Litigation Delivery Manager will have direct line management responsibility of the EO Litigation Support Officers (LSOs) and AO Litigation Support Assistants (LSAs) and will lead the team in delivering a high performing admin service across the Directorate. The post holder will operate with a high degree of personal autonomy in their area and will be expected to deliver all aspects of the role with limited supervision.
This is an exciting opportunity to undertake a fast-paced, challenging, varied and important role, providing day-to-day support to the leadership teams and legal teams.
Key responsibilities:
- Line management for LSOs and where applicable LSAs, following the matrix management model.
- To undertake the effective induction and on-boarding of new staff in line with corporate objectives.
- To oversee the management of systems and processes within the team, identifying and delivering on efficiency savings.
- To have general oversight of EOs in supportive roles to Director and DDs, ensuring effective cover where necessary.
- To highlight, organise, and where appropriate deliver any learning and development opportunities for the admin team.
- To actively participate and engage in regular management meetings with the DD and the Leadership team.
- To actively participate in the networking groups, sharing and seeking best practice.
- Undertake any project/workstream managements as directed by DD or SDM
- To engage and participate in the decision making on spend within the admin team.
- To meet chargeable hours target.
- To review performance of each person within the admin team to assess progress against chargeable hours target, identifying any performance concerns, and putting into place supportive measures where necessary.
- To effectively performance manage all staff within line management structure, ensuring any staff or conduct issues are monitored and managed appropriately.
- To provide support to SDM, TLs and Head of Division, ensuring that risks to delivery of team/division business objectives and priorities are identified and managed.
- To provide client reporting support to SDM, including leading on data collation for GLD monthly client report & internal monthly report.
- To ensure processes and contacts are up to date for security and business continuity.
- To provide Ministerial/Perm Sec briefing co-ordination/support, ensuring the provision of information and statistics to the Private Office, functional lead.
- FOI and PQ’s – Coordination of provision of information in relation to Freedom of Information (FOI), Parliamentary Questions (PQ’s) and Subject Access Request (SAR).
- Support the provision of MI to Divisional Team leaders, Head of Division and clients in relation to work received by the teams, forecasting future volumes from data gathered and analysing trends.

Security Clearance Level
All GLD employees must hold BPSS. In addition to this, those based in our London offices must hold or be willing to obtain CTC level clearance for this role. If London based, you can start your position pending this clearance level, however your appointment will be conditional upon obtaining CTC clearance. Sponsorship and Visas
Visa sponsorship will not be given to candidates except where they are existing civil servants employed by GLD, who meet the HO/UKVI requirements for sponsorship. Selection Process
After the closing date, the appointing panel shall assess candidates’ suitability for the role based on evidence provided in their application against the behaviours and key skills and experience outlined in the person specification.
