Key Responsibilities

  • Lead on complex pollution control cases

  • Carry out risk-based inspections, licensing and planning application reviews, and manage high-impact complaints

  • Assess applications for out-of-hours noisy works (including Section 61 applications)

  • Prepare enforcement notices, technical reports, and committee briefings

  • Investigation of private sector housing enforcement cases

  • Supervise junior officers and mentor students

  • Represent the City in professional forums and develop cross-sector partnerships

  • Participate in the out-of-hours Duty Manager rota (Casual Standby Allowance applies)

  • Undertake work occasionally outside of core hours (Time Off in Lieu applies)

About You

  • Degree in Environmental Health and registration with the Environmental Health Officers Registration Board (EHORB)

  • Proven experience in pollution control, including construction noise and infrastructure impacts

  • Knowledge in private sector housing enforcement, including HHSRS assessments

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience drafting notices and technical documents

  • Strong stakeholder management and inter-agency collaboration skills

  • Competency in Microsoft Office and specialist EH software

  • Desirable: postgraduate qualification in acoustics or related environmental health discipline

  • Access to the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) with a 21% employer contribution

  • 28 days annual leave plus public holidays (with increases based on length of service)

  • Comprehensive benefits package, including volunteering leave, training support, and staff discounts

  • Inclusive and supportive working environment in one of the UK’s most unique local authorities
