About the role

We are seeking a qualified and passionate Teacher of the Deaf to join our Sensory Support Team, supporting deaf children and young people aged 0-25 across Haringey and Enfield. In this rewarding role, you will manage an allocated caseload, providing specialist teaching, assessment, advice and support to children, families, schools and early years settings. You will play a key role in improving educational outcomes, promoting inclusion, supporting transitions, contributing to EHC assessments and reviews, and developing the confidence and competence of young people using audiological equipment. Working collaboratively with a range of professionals, you will help ensure that every deaf child has the opportunity to thrive and achieve their potential

About the team

The Sensory Support Team delivers specialist services for children and young people with hearing impairments across both Haringey and Enfield through a long-standing partnership arrangement. The team is made up of experienced Teachers of the Deaf, a Deaf Communication Specialist and other sensory professionals who work closely with schools, families, health colleagues and SEND services. Together, the team is committed to raising awareness of deafness, promoting positive self-identity, enhancing inclusion and ensuring high-quality support across educational settings. You will join a collaborative, supportive environment where professional development is encouraged and where innovation, partnership working and excellent outcomes for children are at the heart of everything we do.

About you

You will hold a UK teaching qualification and a mandatory Teacher of the Deaf qualification, together with evidence of ongoing professional development and specialist knowledge of audiological equipment and amplification technology. You will bring substantial successful teaching experience with deaf children and/or children with SEND, alongside experience of working effectively with families and multi-agency professionals. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be able to work independently and manage competing priorities and demonstrate up-to-date knowledge of audiology, hearing aid and cochlear implant technologies. A strong understanding of SEND legislation, inclusion, safeguarding and child protection is essential, as is the ability to build positive relationships with schools, health professionals, parents and carers. Experience of providing consultancy to schools, delivering training and supporting children with complex needs would be advantageous.
