Inspire. Develop. Shape the future of policing.

British Transport Police (BTP) is the national police force for the rail network throughout Great Britain. As the ‘Guardians of the Railway,’ we put passenger safety at the heart of what we do. Guided by our values: We Care, We Do the Right Thing, We Strive to Be Better Every Day, We Are One BTP, and We Are Proud to Protect, we are committed to creating an environment where our people, and communities we serve, can thrive.

The Opportunity

Are you passionate about developing others, helping to create the workforce of the future, and developing new officers to reach their full potential?

We are seeking dedicated and motivated Police Constables to join our Learning and Development team as a Recruit Trainer. This is a unique opportunity to make a lasting impact in BTP by shaping the knowledge, skills and confidence of our future officers.

As a Recruit Trainer, you will play a vital role in transforming recruits into capable, professional and values-driven police officers. Through innovative and engaging learning experiences, you will bring policing to life, equipping new starters with the tools they need to succeed. You will support, design and deliver complex, extensive learning and development programmes, enabling the organisation to achieve its goals and individuals to fulfil their potential.

What you'll be doing:

  • Delivering dynamic learning programmes across classroom, digital and practical environments, ensuring content is modern, engaging, relevant and impactful.
  • Research, design, create and continuously improve training materials that bring learning to life and reflect operational realities.
  • Use a variety of teaching and mentoring techniques to motivate, challenge and support recruits, helping them achieve their full potential.
  • Build an inclusive, supportive and high-performing learning environment, where every learner feels supported, valued and able to contribute.
  • Assess learner progress and provide constructive feedback to support continuous development.
  • Adapt training approaches to meet individual needs, ensuring all recruits are set up to succeed.

What you'll bring to the team:

  • A genuine passion for teaching, mentoring and developing others, with a drive to make a difference.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage, inspire and build trust with a diverse range of learners and stakeholders.
  • An understanding of adult learning principles, with the ability to apply these to create effective and innovative training.
  • The ability to design and adapt learning content, including for digital and blended delivery.
  • Plan and deliver engaging group learning sessions that inspire and challenge learners, using effective facilitation, ongoing assessment and mentoring to support progress and drive the achievement of learning outcomes
  • A commitment to being a positive role model, demonstrating the highest standards and upholding BTP values and the Code of Ethics at all times.
  • Experience in supporting individuals’ development, including recognising additional needs, promoting wellbeing and ensuring safeguarding.

For further information regarding the role, please see the attached job description.

Please note there may be opportunities to be deployed elsewhere in BTP if circumstances change in the role.
