The Role: Keeping the Wheels Turning
You will be a key player in the operational delivery of statutory licensing initiatives, ensuring the Council meets its obligations for markets, shop fronts, and street trading licenses across the borough. Primarily office-based, you'll be the go-to person for processing applications, managing records, and providing essential support. This dynamic role involves:
- Licensing Administration:&nbsp;Efficiently processing all types of license applications (new, variations, temporary, permanent) for markets, shop fronts, and street trading, ensuring timely and accurate issuance.
- Financial Management:&nbsp;Monitoring payments for market pitch fees and commercial operations, actively recovering arrears, and reconciling daily and monthly income.
- Customer Service Excellence:&nbsp;Being the first point of contact for applicants, traders, and the public, dealing with inquiries and complaints with a high standard of service in person, by phone, and email.
- Data Management:&nbsp;Maintaining accurate records of licenses, payments, trader information (including public liability insurance and certifications), and enforcement actions. You'll also provide statistical reports and manage customer records.
- Operational Support:&nbsp;Coordinating meeting bookings, assisting with HR support (leave, sickness, timesheets, recruitment), and compiling Health and Safety plans.
- Compliance &amp; Enforcement:&nbsp;Assisting in ensuring compliance with legislation, preparing evidence for Officer Licensing Panels and court cases, and liaising with internal and external stakeholders.
This role requires a flexible approach to working hours, including mandatory weekend work and occasional public holidays to meet service requirements.

You will be responsible for producing impressive visually engaging content across all our social &amp; digital media platforms, reviewing feedback and follower statistics to discover fresh and innovative ways to deliver a best in class brand management service and deliver the recommendations set out in the Markets , Shop Fronts &amp; Street Trading Strategy 2024/2029.
You will be responsible for:
- Producing scheduled and live material for our current social media platforms, as well as exploring new avenues and methods to establish connections with viewers.
- Staying up-to-date with the latest social media trends and digital technologies
- Developing monthly reports on emerging social media trends that will be submitted to the management and executive teams
- Developing social media strategies with the aim of increasing brand awareness and customer engagement and growing both online followers and driving physical footfall into commercial sites.
- Analysing the long-term needs of the company’s social media strategy and offering quarterly reports to the management and executive teams, outlining any necessary changes to the overall digital marketing plan
- Creating captivating content for an organisation’s social media sites, which may include writing blogs, articles, posts and multimedia content
- Monitoring and responding to customer feedback, comments and social media posts
- Developing and overseeing competitions and campaigns to draw attention to our commercial brands and trading sites.
- Setting measurable goals for campaigns, measuring and showing the Return on Investment (ROI)
- Creation of the bi monthly newsletter to communicate updates with our traders, other Council services and ward members.
The role is a full time position which includes weekend work as mandatory to capture live feeds and communication in all our markets.
You must have experience of managing multiple social media accounts and able to create digital content to promote the small businesses across all our Markets and Street trading sites. You should be able to use your own initiative and love putting your organisational and creative skills to good use. You will need to be articulate, with sound written and verbal communications. Above all, you need a ‘can do’ attitude and a desire to deliver exceptional customer service.

<h2>About the role</h2>An exciting, fixed term, full-time specialist practitioner position has become available. One of the posts will likely sit entirely within the multi-disciplinary Alternative Provision Taskforce and the other split between this taskforce and the BHISS Social, Emotional and Mental Health Team (SEMH), which currently operates as the city’s behaviour outreach service for 0–16-year-olds. &nbsp;BHISS-SEMH offers support, advice, trainings as well as direct in-school interventions for children whose behaviours are likely to mean they are at risk of suspension. Our key aims are to reduce fixed term suspensions; maintain children’s mainstream placement as well as develop colleagues’ capacity to manage challenge. We also offer a variety of bespoke trainings and forums for staff, both 1-1 and small groups, to discuss challenge as well as devise clear programmes of support for referred children. The ability to ably represent the team at multi-disciplinary meetings across the city is vital.&nbsp;BHISS is located at the Portslade Hub.
