We are seeking an experienced and influential Head of Building Safety to lead our building safety function and ensure the effective management of a residential buildings portfolio.

This is a pivotal leadership role where you will drive our building safety strategy, ensure compliance with the Building Safety Act 2022, and champion a culture of safety across the organisation. Working closely with senior leaders, regulators, residents, and external partners, you will play a critical role in protecting customers, safeguarding assets, and delivering regulatory excellence.

What you’ll do

  • Provide strategic oversight of a portfolio of 400+ high-rise residential buildings, ensuring residents remain safe and risks are effectively managed.
  • Drive compliance with the Building Safety Act 2022 and associated regulations, acting as a subject matter expert on building safety and higher-risk buildings.
  • Lead the development, maintenance, and submission of Safety Case Reports, ensuring all regulatory requirements are met.
  • Oversee comprehensive building safety risk assessments, identifying hazards, evaluating risks, and implementing effective mitigation measures.
  • Champion the development and management of the Golden Thread of information, ensuring building information remains accurate, accessible, and up to date.
  • Lead successful applications for Building Assessment Certificates and build strong relationships with the Building Safety Regulator.
  • Develop robust compliance reporting frameworks and present building safety performance, risks, and assurance updates to senior leadership forums and governance boards.
  • Oversee alterations, refurbishment works, and Permit to Work processes, ensuring compliance with all relevant safety standards.
  • Drive resident engagement initiatives, ensuring residents have a voice in building safety matters and that concerns are addressed promptly and effectively.
  • Lead investigations into building safety incidents, identifying root causes and implementing lessons learned to drive continuous improvement.
  • Build, lead, and develop a high-performing Building Safety team, fostering a culture of accountability, learning, and professional excellence.
  • Promote innovation, best practice, and continuous improvement across all aspects of building safety management.

What you’ll need

  • Substantial experience of leading and managing a Building Safety department, with excellent communication skills, that generate confidence and respect with a wide variety of audiences
  • Knowledge of statutory and regulatory requirements for building safety. Sound technical knowledge of building services and experience of fire safety systems.
  • Excellent communication skills; proven record of preparing and delivering persuasive, high quality, written and verbal reports and presentations within the organisation up to Executive and committee level and externally
  • Proven track record of developing and leading on change management programmes through employee engagement, involvement and collaboration
  • Proven experience of leading on risk management. This will include effective networking, negotiation and influencing and stakeholder management skills
