Job Description

Overview

The London Borough of Harrow is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Apprentice Data and Applications Engineer to join our innovative ICT team within the Resources directorate. This career‑graded opportunity (G4–G6) offers an excellent pathway for aspiring technologists to build hands-on experience while working towards a recognised apprenticeship. You will support the design, development and maintenance of modern data and application solutions that help the organisation operate efficiently and make informed, data-driven decisions. With flexible working, you will learn in a supportive environment that values growth, curiosity and collaboration.

In this role, you will gain practical experience with industry-leading tools such as Microsoft Power Apps, Power Automate and Microsoft Fabric. You will help create and maintain data pipelines, develop low-code applications, and support automated workflows that streamline business processes and improve user experience. Working alongside experienced engineers and architects, you will translate business needs into effective digital solutions, while building your skills in problem-solving, data quality, testing and documentation. As you progress through the career grades, you will take on increasing responsibility and contribute to more complex solution design and delivery.

This apprenticeship is ideal for driven individuals eager to learn, grow and make a meaningful impact. You will be supported through training, mentoring and real-world experience, helping you to build a rewarding career in digital and data services while contributing to a better, fairer borough.

This is an apprenticeship opportunity, offering a unique blend of hands-on experience, professional development and formal training to support your career in digital and data services.
About You

  • Knowledge of security and data protection principles, such as access control and responsible data handling
  • Familiarity with low-code / no-code platforms and workflow automation
  • Awareness of platforms and tools commonly used in modern ICT teams, such as application development tools, automation services and data platforms (e.g. Power Apps, Power Automate, Microsoft Fabric)
  • Ability to learn new tools and technologies with support and guidance
  • Basic problem-solving skills and a logical approach to breaking down tasks
  • Ability to follow instructions, standards and documented processes
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage time and complete assigned tasks within agreed timescales
  • Attention to detail, particularly when working with data or making changes to systems
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
  • Experience gained through education, training, self-study or personal projects is welcomed
