Job Description

Organisation: Leicestershire County Council

Work Location: County Hall, Glenfield, LE3 8RA and Various Locations

Salary: £32,070 to £34,359 for newly qualified, £35,451 to £39,165 for Level 2 Social Workers or £39,939 to £42,699 per annum (pro-rata for part-time) (Pay award pending) plus £3,300 market premia payment for Level 3 Social Workers

Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 37 Hours Per Week(see below)

We are seeking an experienced Mental Health Social Worker to join our busy Mental Health and Reablement team. These are permanent full-time positions and would particularly suit experienced Social Workers with a background working with this service user group, and with those the use substances, though applications from other suitable candidates are also welcome.

About the Role

Your role will be to complete Care Act 2014 assessments focussing on reablement, recovery and strength-based approach. The role is vital in helping deliver high-quality, person-centred input to enable people with mental health needs receive the support they need to live independently, safely and with dignity. You will be experienced in MDT working, have a good understanding of the Mental health Act 1983 and S117 aftercare support planning. You will be confident in managing complex safeguarding and high-risk cases including self-neglect. You will work collaboratively with the person, carers, and professionals across health and social care to complete care and support assessments, promote recovery, and uphold the principles of wellbeing and independence to ensure the person’s outcomes are met. You will have a good understanding of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and experience of completing MCA assessments and best interest decisions. As an experienced worker you will be able to manage your own caseload and support your colleagues by sharing your knowledge and skills.

You will be working in a team that is knowledgeable, friendly and supportive, with a wealth of contacts and experience amongst the extensive Mental Health community and provider network across Leicestershire. We have weekly Group Supervision Meetings to promote the best possible outcomes for the people we work with. All staff benefit from regular manager supervision, manageable workloads and support from specialist teams within the department (such as finance or legal services).

We provide a comprehensive induction package with ongoing access to bespoke learning and development opportunities. This includes tailored continuous professional development sessions; opportunities for supported further qualifications and access to academic research and practice expertise to develop skills, experience and inform our employee’s practice.

About You

To apply for this post, you must:

  • Be a qualified Social Worker and registered with Social Work England.
  • Have knowledge of social work methodologies, social care policies such as person-centred approaches and asset based social work, and relevant legislation including The Care Act, Mental Health Act, and Mental Capacity Act.
  • Have experience of effective assessment and risk management delivery, complex safeguarding, court of protection and multi-agency/multidisciplinary working and/or hospital discharge processes.
  • Have experience of partnership working with adults to identify and meet need with creative and pragmatic solutions.
  • Be a confident communicator who is skilled in diplomacy, persuasion, assertive and conflict management and able to build effective working relationships.
  • Be able to work proactively individually but also as a team member.
  • Have good prioritisation and time management skills and have a valid UK driving licence or access to a vehicle
