Hertfordshire Educational Psychology Service is looking for enthusiastic and motivated Assistant Educational Psychologists (AEPs) with a passion for applying psychology to join our supportive, forward-thinking team.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a service at the heart of Hertfordshire’s SEND strategy, working collaboratively to promote inclusion, early intervention, and positive life outcomes for children and young people.

About the team

Hertfordshire’s Educational Psychology Service is a highly regarded and innovative service committed to ensuring children and young people with SEND are supported to thrive, achieve, and feel included in their local communities.

We work within a graduated, early intervention framework, placing strong emphasis on partnership working and co-production with children, young people, families, schools, and partner agencies. Our approach is strengths-based and person-centred, supporting emotional wellbeing, resilience, and inclusive practice.

You will join a team of Senior Educational Psychologists, Educational Psychologists, Trainee Educational Psychologists and Assistant Educational Psychologists, working within locality-based teams. We offer:

About the role

As an Assistant Educational Psychologist, you will work under the supervision of a qualified Educational Psychologist to support the delivery of psychological services across Hertfordshire.

Your work will contribute directly to the aims of the SEND strategy, focusing on early identification, inclusion, and improved outcomes.

You will:

  • Support person-centred assessment and planning, identifying strengths and needs
  • Contribute to consultation work with schools, families, and multi-agency professionals
  • Assist in preparing clear, high-quality psychological written advice
  • Support the delivery of evidence-based interventions and projects
  • Collect and analyse data to support evaluation and continuous improvement
  • Contribute to service development and research, aligned with local and service priorities
  • Co-deliver training to schools and settings

You will build strong relationships with schools and settings, supporting a graduated response to SEND and helping to ensure children and young people receive the right support at the right time.

About you

We are looking for individuals who are committed to making a difference and are passionate about applying psychology to support children and young people with SEND.

Essential:

  • Have an undergraduate degree in psychology or a relevant post graduate degree in psychology that provides graduate basis for registration (GBR) with the British Psychological Society (BPS).
  • Have a minimum of at least two years of relevant experience of working with children and young people up to the age of 25, within educational settings.
  • Be interested in pursuing a career in Educational Psychology with a view to applying for the professional doctorate training programme.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of psychological theories and approaches relating to child development , learning, education and well-being
  • Be committed to inclusion, early intervention, and improving outcomes for children and young people
  • Value co-production, working collaboratively with families, schools, and professionals
  • Be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Show the ability to work reflectively, use supervision effectively use initiative, and manage your time effectively
  • Be enthusiastic, adaptable, and eager to learn within a supportive team

    Salary range

    • £37,265 - £41,616 per year
