We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and motivated Income Manager to lead our Income team. This role offers a rare opportunity to take forward a well-established and respected team, as our current postholder retires after a long and valued contribution.

This is a crucial role within social housing management, responsible for ensuring the effective collection of rental income, minimising arrears, and supporting residents to sustain their tenancies. You will lead a dedicated team delivering a customer focused, proactive service that balances enforcement with support, helping to protect both our tenants and the Council’s Housing Revenue Account.

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Leading and developing the Income team to deliver a high quality, customer focused service
  • Driving the maximisation of rental income and minimisation of arrears through effective prevention, intervention and enforcement
  • Overseeing all aspects of income recovery, including court action and eviction processes where required
  • Supporting tenants to sustain their tenancies through financial inclusion and early intervention approaches
  • Monitoring performance, managing risk, and ensuring continuous improvement
  • Working collaboratively with internal teams, partners, and stakeholders to deliver positive outcomes for tenants

We are looking for a confident and experienced housing professional who brings strong leadership, expertise, and a commitment to excellent service delivery.

You will have:

  • Proven experience of managing an income recovery function within a social housing environment
  • A strong track record of delivering customer focused services and improving performance
  • Experience of managing, motivating and developing teams, including through change
  • The ability to work on your own initiative, manage competing priorities and take ownership of complex issues
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to build effective relationships across teams and with partners

Due to the nature of this position, you will need to have a full driving licence and access to your own vehicle, which is insured for business use; or be willing to cycle around the city.

An Enhanced DBS check is required for this post.

In addition, we offer a wide range of benefits, including:

  • Excellent learning and development opportunities supported via a range of sources and methods and, where applicable, recognised through Digital Badges
  • Access to the Local Government Pension Scheme(LGPS) and Additional Voluntary Contribution (Shared AVC) Scheme
  • Agile and Flexible working options
  • Generous annual leave starting at 25 days, rising to 30 days after five years’ service, plus 8 days public holidays (pro rata for part time), with the option to purchase additional leave
  • Family friendly policies and Flexible Bank Holidays
  • Confidential wellbeing support through our Employee Assistance Programme and Your Care wellbeing platform
  • Staff reward and recognition framework, including an annual staff awards ceremony
  • Professional Membership Fees paid for, dependent on role
  • Salary sacrifice schemes including Cycle to Work, Gym Membership and Home & Electronics
  • Lifestyle Savings with over 750 discounts from the UK’s leading retailers, restaurants, supermarkets, attractions and more
  • Free swimming at CCC swimming pools
  • Subsidy for public transport
  • Relocation Assistance may be payable in approved cases
  • Annually negotiated pay and award progression

Hours: This is a full-time role, for 37 hours per week.

Working Pattern: Monday-Friday

Contract: Permanent

Salary: £47,181 - £52,413 per annum (City Pay Band 7), pro rata for part time.

Location: This is flexible – working in Cambridge on site or at one of our offices or working from home. You will be able to balance your work location accordingly.
