Fleet Services are at the heart of delivering essential services to multiple areas that support statutory services to residents across the Dacorum Borough. Fleet Services play a vital role in ensuring vital and essential vehicle maintenance is completed to support multiple services from waste and recycling collections, parks to open spaces, trees and woodlands, street cleaning and grounds maintenance, to cemeteries and bereavement services, parking operations and the cleaning services. These services have a direct impact on the communities we serve.

A key part of the role will involve supporting all aspects of Operator Licence compliance and ensuring all vehicles are planned and scheduled for the necessary maintenance, managing workshop technicians, working in collaboration with other services, maximise fleet and plant availability, review parts requirements and authorise expenditure. You will also ensure safe working practices are maintained in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act, identify innovate solutions, maintain and review systems within quality standards.

This varied and rewarding role will see you working at the forefront of a modernising service, helping to improve standards, enhance the customer service experience, and support statutory service delivery through both traditional and digital approaches.

We are looking for an individual who has the technical skills required, enjoys a varied workload, is target driven, organised, and able to use digital platforms and is creative in their approach.

What is Local Government Reorganisation?

The Council is going through a major change as part of Local Government Reorganisation (LGR) and devolution. This means that the district and borough councils in Hertfordshire will be replaced by a smaller number of new unitary councils.

The aim is to make local government simpler and more efficient, improve services for residents, and bring decision-making closer to the communities we serve.

What this means for you

If you join Dacorum Borough Council between now and 31 March 2028, you will move to a new organisation on 1 April 2028. Your role will transfer to the new authority, but the way you work and who you report to may change.

While this may be different from what you are used to, it is also a rare and exciting opportunity to join Dacorum at a time of real change.
