Job Description

Senior Personal Advisor – Young People Service – Croydon Council

Salary: Grade 10 £43,680-£45,750

Permanent – 36 hours per week

Hybrid working

Job Purpose

To fulfil the statutory role of Senior Personal Advisor and deliver the range of legal duties outlined in the Children Act 1989 to young people aged 16 to 25 who have been looked after by the council.To hold a caseload of young people and advise, assist and support them to achieve positive outcomes as outlined in their Pathway Plan, ensuring the council remains in contact with them and enables them to make a positive transition to independence and adulthood. This may include partnership working to prevent or reduce the risk and vulnerability factors associated with care leavers, including those who have unsettled immigration status. To support Personal Advisors with their caseload and provide support, advice and guidance when required.

Essential Requirements
Knowledge of relevant legislation, research, practice models and policy developments.

Experience of working in a similar role.
Knowledge of effective safeguarding and risk management practice in relation to vulnerable adults and children.
Ability to identify, assess and determine individual plans based on strengths including a focus on safeguarding and managing risk.
Knowledge of human development theory, in particular adolescent development and the issues experienced by young people including those who are looked after or are care leavers.
Knowledge of different methods of providing effective support preferably within a social care setting.
Ability to develop and deliver targeted interventions that promote independence and reduce vulnerability for care leavers.
Confident in managing complex and potentially conflictual situations and using restorative and solution focussed approaches
Ability to use ICT, ability and confidence to learn new systems and proficient using client recording systems, Excel, Outlook and Word.
Experience of working with young people in a statutory or non-statutory setting.
Considerable experience coordinating work with individuals in a case-holding or key working capacity.
Ability to engage and develop effective relationships with other professionals and organisations, including effective joint working.
Experience of helping young people to achieve positive outcomes in their lives through relationship-based work, agreeing and implementing plans

Good basic standards of literacy and numeracy.
