<h2>London Assembly and secretariat</h2>
<p>The London Assembly scrutinises the Mayor's activities by questioning the Mayor about their decisions. The Assembly also investigates issues of importance to London.</p>
<p>There are 25 Assembly Members, elected every four years at the same time as the Mayor. The Secretariat works for the Assembly to support its activities. The</p>
<p>Communications Team support service to promote the work of the Assembly through press office, social media, publicity and events.</p>
<p>The London Assembly Labour Group support the work of the 11 Labour Assembly Members in representing their constituents, scrutinising the work of the Mayor and championing the needs of Londoners.</p>
<p>We achieve this by delivering three main functions:</p>
<ul>
<li>Dedicated Research and Support Officers act as stakeholder engagement specialists for the Labour Group, dealing with casework, diary management and events.</li>
<li>Senior Researchers provide policy support for the Labour Group across areas such as economy, environment, fire, health, housing policing, transport etc.</li>
<li>Press Officers promote the work of the Labour Assembly Members through writing local and regional press releases, helping prepare our politicians for TV/ radio interviews and creating social media content.</li>
</ul>
<h2>About the role</h2>
<p>In this role you will work as a part of our Press Office. Working with our Senior Press Officer, you’ll lead on our digital content, making sure our social media channels and website reflect the work our Labour Assembly Members are doing to champion the interests of Londoners. You will also support the rest of the Press Office in drafting regional or local newspaper stories as required.</p>
<p>This role is based at City Hall, in the Royal Docks (Kamal Chunchie Way, London, E16 1ZE).</p>
<h2>What your day will look like</h2>
<p>This is a busy role that is a combination of proactive work to generate exciting media stories and reactive work to respond to breaking news stories. Your day might look something like:</p>
<ul>
<li>having a short catch up at the start of the day with the Senior Press Officer and Communications Officer to go through the press grid and plan stories for the day ahead</li>
<li>producing a video clip of one of our Assembly Members speaking at a London Assembly Committee</li>
<li>attending a constituency visit with one of our Assembly Members to record a video, edit the footage and help them to post this on social media</li>
<li>monitor the social media content of key stakeholders to identify opportunities for pieces of work we can collaborate on.</li>
</ul>
<h2>Skills, knowledge and experience</h2>
<p>To be considered for the role you must meet the following essential criteria:</p>
<ul>
<li>Experience and evidence of running online media campaigns.</li>
<li>Understanding of current affairs, the political context of London government and the major issues facing the capital.</li>
<li>Evidence of working successfully, in a similar role in a high profile organisation, or for high profile people.</li>
<li>Demonstrate commitment and understanding of the role of the GLA in promoting equality and working with diverse groups in developing the work required to advance the needs of Assembly Members.</li>

<p>We are a team of 14 officers who support the eight Conservative London Assembly Members in scrutinising the work of the Greater London Authority and Mayor of London.</p>
<h2>About the role</h2>
<p>This is a chance to take on a unique role as a Senior Press Officer for the City Hall Conservative Members of the London Assembly, specialising in managing communications support.</p>
<p>You will be responsible for generating media coverage for the assigned Assembly Member(s) in relation to the range of their GLA roles and functions and to respond to media enquiries effectively, accurately and quickly, ensuring that responses properly reflect the particular Member’s views.</p>
<p>Organised, collaborative and diplomatic, you will bring to the role a talent for communicating and influencing, both in person and in writing.</p>
<p>Experience of working in a similar role or sector is essential.</p>
<h2>What your day will look like</h2>
<ul>
<li>Generating media coverage for the assigned Assembly Member(s) in relation to the range of their GLA roles and functions and to respond to media enquiries effectively, accurately and quickly, ensuring that responses properly reflect the particular Member’s views.</li>
<li>Developing and implementing comprehensive, proactive and effective communications strategies for assigned Assembly Members, working in close coordination with other staff in the Group at all times.</li>
<li>Effectively monitoring relevant media activity, and providing effective and timely advice to relevant Assembly Members, including early warning of potential issues, in relation to media management.</li>
<li>Supporting the wider team with the development and implementation of media-based tasks, including but not limited to, producing videos or newsletter content.&nbsp;</li>
</ul>
<h2>Skills, knowledge and experience</h2>
<p>To be considered for the role you must meet the following essential criteria:</p>
<ul>
<li>Evidence of working successfully, in a similar role in a high-profile organisation is essential.</li>
<li>Understanding and experience of media handling techniques, including strategies, designing and delivering effective communications plans for elected politicians.</li>
<li>Ability to utilise the latest information and communication technologies in relation to media issues, including designing or commissioning leaflets, newsletters and other documents.</li>
<li>Experience of working with video editing software is desirable but not essential.</li>
