Habilitation Officer
Permanent, term-time only + 2 additional weeks (pro rata)
Location: Schools, homes and community settings
Start date: As soon as possible
We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed individual to join our vision impairment service as either a Trainee Habilitation Specialist or a Qualified Habilitation Specialist (QHS).
This role is term‑time only, with two additional working weeks allocated during school holidays. These extra weeks may be used flexibly to provide home‑based or community‑based habilitation support, where this is appropriate for the child or young person.
About the role
You will support children and young people with vision impairment to develop independence in mobility, orientation and everyday living skills. You will work in schools, homes and local community environments, delivering high‑quality habilitation programmes.
For Trainee Applicants
Trainee appointments include the opportunity to complete the university‑accredited Graduate Diploma/Certificate in Habilitation (e.g., UCL). You will be supervised by a Lead Teacher for VI or a manager with appropriate knowledge of habilitation practice.
For Qualified Applicants (QHS)
You will manage your own caseload, assess children’s needs, design programmes and deliver mobility and independence training across a range of settings.
What we’re looking for
- Experience working with children or young people (essential for trainee level)
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Commitment to inclusion and promoting independence
- Enthusiasm for supporting CYP with vision impairment
- A recognised qualification in Habilitation (required for QHS appointments)
