    Employee Relations Advisor

    Permanent (Hybrid Working Available)

    Hemel Hempstead

    £36,090 per annum

The Employee Relations Advisor role provides expert, proactive support to managers across the organisation on a wide range of employee relations matters. You will coach and guide managers to confidently handle people issues, ensure cases are managed consistently and fairly, and contribute to the development of HR policies and best-practice approaches. The role offers variety, flexibility, and the opportunity to play a key role in shaping how effective people management is delivered across Hightown.

As our Employee Relations Advisor, you will play a key role in delivering a high-quality, customer-focused ER service across the organisation.

    Responsibilities:

    • Provide clear, practical advice to managers on a wide range of ER issues including sickness absence, performance, probation, and flexible working and casework.
    • Build strong, trusted relationships with managers by coaching, guiding and developing their confidence in people management.
    • Support the organisation through formal and informal ER processes, including drafting documentation, reviewing reports, and advising on best practice.
    • Assist with policy development and updates, ensuring our HR documents remain legally compliant and aligned with best practice.
    • Lead or support HR project workstreams and continuous improvement initiatives.
    • Manage accurate case records and ER workflows in our HR system.
    • Advise on OH referrals, reasonable adjustments and wellbeing support to ensure colleagues are appropriately supported at work.

This is a varied role where no two days are the same. You will have the autonomy to manage your own workload within deadlines, while being supported by a knowledgeable and approachable HR team.

    About you

We are looking for someone who is:

    • Experienced in providing HR advice, ideally with a focus on employee relations
    • Able to confidently coach and influence managers at all levels
    • Highly organised, with the ability to manage multiple cases and competing priorities
    • Strong collaboration skills - clear, compassionate and professional
    • Detail-focused, ensuring accurate documentation and high-quality work
    • Positive, proactive and solution-focused
    • Committed to Hightown’s Values
    • A driving licence is a bonus but not essential

    Why join Hightown?

When you join us, you become part of a housing association that genuinely cares about people and empowers colleagues to grow, develop and succeed. As well as working in an organisation guided by values that shape everything we do, you will benefit from:

    • 33 days annual leave, including bank holidays (rising with service)
    • Annual performance-based bonus
    • Monthly attendance bonus
    • Regular salary and cost-of-living reviews
    • Life assurance (three times your annual salary)
    • Blue Light Card - access to discounts from local and national retailers
    • Ongoing training and development opportunities to help you progress
    • On-site gym access

If you are passionate about providing high-quality HR advice, building strong relationships and helping managers create great workplaces, we would love to hear from you.

We will be shortlisting on an ongoing basis so may close the vacancy early.

    Salary range

    • £36,090 per year
