The Spotlight Theatre are recruiting a Venue Technician with a sound bias. The Broxbourne Council venue, close to Hoddesdon High Street, has a host of first-class entertainment shows and events lined up with fun for all ages.
You will be responsible for the technical operation supporting The Spotlight’s busy events and entertainments programme.
You will ensure the smooth running of all technical aspects of productions (with a focus on sound), as well as support for a range of events including cinema, conferences and private functions. Duties involve rigging, setting up and operating sound/lighting and stage equipment according to the Venues busy programme.
This is a varied role including practical technical work and supervision of casual technicians. You will need to be great with people as well as having experience of large-scale technical work, including production experience.
You will have at least three years of experience working as a professional theatre technician in a multifunctional venue and have knowledge and experience of a broad range of technical theatre aspects such as sound, lighting, set building and stage management. You will have an in-depth knowledge of Health and Safety issues, good communication skills, and be a team player with the ability to work flexibly. Electrical installation and formal backstage technical qualifications are desirable.
The ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in fluent English is essential in this post.

We are looking for hard-working and dedicated people to help keep Broxbourne’s streets safe by joining our team of Civil Enforcement Officers.
Keeping children safe especially near schools, ensuring emergency vehicles have unrestricted access, as well as &nbsp;improving access to disabled bays and local facilities for less-abled people are essential aspects of this role.
The Civil Enforcement Officers ensure that drivers comply with these regulations as well as providing guidance. They play a vital role in ensuring good traffic flow, maximising available parking spaces and enhancing safety throughout the Borough.
The areas of responsibility include both on and off-street parking contraventions, as well as the smooth running of the Council’s pay and display car parks and on-street pay and display areas.
Excellent customer care skills are essential for this role. Applicants must be able to demonstrate good people skills often in challenging situations; they must be good team players and have basic computer skills. They must be prepared to work in all weathers on a flexible rota basis, which will include weekends and bank holidays.
A manual driving licence is required. This role requires a standard Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

You’ll work closely with the permeant technicians to support touring companies and our in-house programming team to provide technical support.Some of the key responsibilities of the Casual Technician Role include:<ul><li>To assist with the get-ins and get-outs, including loading and unloading of vehicles.</li><li>To undertake lighting and sound tasks as necessary.</li><li>To have at least a basic understanding of electrical safety in temporary electrical installations. </li><li>To help build scenic elements of incoming shows and ensure current health and safety guidance is followed in discharging these duties. </li><li>To operate lighting and sound or fulfil stage duties for shows.</li><li>To promptly communicate any issues to the Deputy Technical Manager or Technical and Production Manager.</li><li>Maintain and clean the backstage areas of the theatre when necessary. </li><li>To help other departments with occasional manual labour.</li></ul>No two days are the same: one week you might be running sound for a comedy tour, the next you could be helping bring our co-produced pantomime to life.
