Coventry City Council’s Migration Team supports newly arrived communities to build settled, independent lives in the city. Our work focuses on practical integration pathways, including employment, skills, education, English language support and access to local services, helping refugees, people seeking asylum and other migrant communities contribute to Coventry’s economic, civic and social life.

Join us in making Coventry a place people choose to live, learn and work.

What is the job role?

As Community Connector, you will play a key role in strengthening community resilience, promoting shared values and building positive relationships across Coventry’s diverse communities. Working with local groups, faith organisations, statutory partners and national government programmes, you will help identify and respond to community tensions, support local initiatives and strengthen social cohesion.

You will develop strong community networks, provide support to organisations seeking to build resilience, and ensure local intelligence, community insight and evidence are used to shape effective responses to emerging challenges. Working across a range of agendas including cohesion, extremism, hate crime and integration, you will help create stronger, safer and more connected communities across the city.

What we expect you to do

Build and maintain trusted relationships with community groups, faith organisations, local leaders and partner agencies to strengthen community resilience and cohesion.

Develop a strong understanding of local and national trends relating to extremism, community tensions and cohesion, using evidence to inform local action and partnership responses.

Facilitate networks that enable partners and communities to share information, best practice and learning.

Support community organisations to develop projects, secure funding and build their capacity to deliver positive outcomes for local communities.

Work collaboratively with Council services, West Midlands Police, regional and national partners to develop and deliver local action plans that strengthen resilience and reduce risks to community cohesion.

This is a 24-month fixed-term contract, working 22 hours per week.

All candidates must have the Right to Work in the UK. We are currently not offering sponsorship for this role.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for someone who understands the importance of trusted community relationships and who can translate national policy and local intelligence into practical action that strengthens cohesion, resilience and belonging across Coventry's communities.

Essential Behaviours

  • Inclusive and collaborative – Builds trust with diverse communities and develops productive partnerships.
  • Confident communicator – Engages effectively with different audiences and communicates complex issues clearly.
  • Influential and resilient – Able to navigate sensitive issues, build consensus and maintain credibility with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Solution-focused – Uses evidence, insight and creativity to identify opportunities and address challenges constructively.

Key Experience and Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of community cohesion, community resilience and the challenges associated with violent and non-violent extremism.
  • Knowledge of local government, partnership working and the role of elected members in shaping community outcomes.
  • Experience of engaging and building relationships with diverse communities, including vulnerable and hard-to-reach groups.
  • Experience of developing partnerships, projects or initiatives that strengthen community capacity, resilience or cohesion.
  • Ability to interpret policy, analyse information and use evidence to shape effective community-based interventions.

Join us and help build stronger, safer and more connected communities across Coventry.
