EHC Coordinators

EHC Coordinators

Social Care
£35,570 - £38,510 per year

Job Title: SEND EHC Coordinator
Location: Hemel Hempstead or Stevenage
Starting Salary: £35,570 progressing to £38,510 per annum
Hours: 37 per week
Contract: Permanent

Inclusion is at the heart of everything we do.

We continue to strive to improve outcomes for children and young people with SEND.

Join our growing team of passionate professionals who share a commitment to making a real difference.

About the teams

EHC coordinators will be aligned to one of several functional teams supporting either assessment processes, review processes or resolution and reconciliation processes:

We have vacancies for you to specialise in:

  • School Age (Based at Hemel Hempstead): responsible for children and young people age 5 – 19 with an EHCP who attend a school
  • Services for Young People (Age 16 and over) - Responsible for young people age 16 and over with an EHCP: who attend a college (or other further education settings), who are completing an apprenticeship, are in training or a supported internship or who are not in education, employment or training. Also support care leavers age 18 and over with an EHCP
  • Early Years SEND: responsible for children age 0-5 (up to and including reception year) with an EHCP

About the role

As an EHC Coordinator, you’ll manage and process EHC plans within a complex legal framework and tight statutory timescales. This is a highly process-driven role, requiring meticulous attention to detail and strong case management skills. You’ll be reviewing documents, implementing legal requirements, and creating, amending, and maintaining plans that shape the support children receive. While you’ll communicate regularly with practitioners, parents, and carers, these conversations are focused on statutory processes and decision-making, rather than direct interaction with children or young people.

Responsibilities include:

  • Developing the highest standards of achievement and inclusion for children and young people with SEN through effective casework within the policy and budget framework of the Council, ensuring a focus on preparing for adulthood from the earliest ages.
  • Taking responsibility for the preparation of information for parents, children, young people and schools, which provides the right information at the appropriate time, in a simple to use way, which engages partners in understanding what our responsibility is to children, families and schools.
  • Managing and processing statutory casework within legal and internal timelines
  • Working collaboratively with professionals across education, health and care services
  • Ensuring effective case management, integrated working practice and successful outcomes for children.
  • Participating in resource decisions, taking the lead where appropriate, for example decision making processes relating to whether or not assessment or plans are written, or whether specialist provision is agreed, ensuring that resource decisions are in line with local authority policies, procedures and eligibility criteria. This could include chairing or attending panel meetings.
  • Participating, as required, in a range of meetings with other professionals and parents/carers in relation to individual children with complex needs, including representing Children’s Services at annual review, chairing reviews, attending and chairing multi-agency meetings as appropriate.
  • Contributing to the development of policy, procedures and provision for children with SEN children’s needs, which includes maintaining an up-to-date knowledge relating to SEN casework, changes to national legislation and departmental policies, and supporting induction/training and support to all team members.
  • Inputting and maintaining accurate and comprehensive database records as required and participate in the Local Authority’s systems for monitoring and quality assurance for children and young people known to the EHC assessment and review team.

About you

Essential:

  • Strong understanding of the SEND Code of Practice and the Children and Families Act 2014, with the ability to interpret and apply this guidance effectively in practice.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to manage deadlines and work under pressure in a busy environment
  • Excellent written skills to support accurate case recording and contribute to quality EHC plans
  • Experience of working with children, families, or professionals in education, health, or care settings OR transferable skills/lived experience relevant to SEND
  • Hold a current driving licence and have access to a vehicle for work

Desirable:

  • Previous experience with casework management

We welcome applications from candidates who currently reside in the UK with established proof of right to work documentation. We are not able to offer sponsorship at this time for this role.

This job role is within the Health and Social Care job family, level 9. Please locate this via: Job profiles - Health and social care

Benefits of working for us

Grow with the Hertfordshire SEND Academy

We’re proud winners of the 2025 Children & Young People Now Workforce Development Award recognising our commitment to professional growth.

You’ll receive training to prepare you for your role via our award-winning Hertfordshire SEND Academy, along with a generous pay and benefits package.

Office-Based Working Expectations During Your Induction
For the first four months of employment, all new staff are expected to work from the office full-time, five days a week. This ensures full participation in the induction programme, including training and casework activities essential for successful completion of probation. Following the induction, consideration of hybrid working arrangements will be discussed - typically, this involves working from the office two days per week, with the remaining three days spent working remotely, including school meetings, visits, and other duties.

Do rewarding work that really matters

Your role will support children and young people with SEND to access education and support. The work is highly process‑driven, involving interaction with parents and professionals, but little or no direct work with children and young people. The work can be challenging, but is also very rewarding.

Join our team as we strive for better outcomes for children and young people with SEND and their families by continuing to improve the effectiveness and reach of our statutory SEND services.

How to apply

As part of your application, please upload your most recent CV. Ensure your CV is up to date with your employment history (including any employment gaps), and including any training/qualifications. We encourage you to include examples of where you have demonstrated the requirements/criteria in the advert / job profile to allow the panel to fully recognise your skills and abilities. You will have the opportunity to include a short covering paragraph within your application to give us a little more information about your skills, knowledge, and experiences.

The vacancies we currently have are listed in the 'About the teams' section of our advert. When you apply, you'll be asked to select your preference. You may see other team names that aren't mentioned on the advert. These teams do not currently have vacancy, therefore if you select a team that is not listed on the advert, you will be held in a talent pool, and you will be contacted when a vacancy arises.

LGR is one of the biggest changes we will face in a generation. It will reshape how we work and how services are organised and gives us a real opportunity to build something better. To find out more, visit https://www.hertfordshire-lgr.co.uk/
