Are you a nurturing, trauma aware teacher who gets the best from children who find the mainstream learning environment challenging? Do you have experience planning and delivering targeted, evidence led provision for young children with additional needs? If so, we want to hear from you.

The role:

We are recruiting a Class Teacher to lead and teach in our Rainbow Room nurture provision for children in EYFS and KS1. You will plan and deliver a curriculum adapted to the social, emotional and learning needs of young children, using a range of strategies including sensory activities, outdoor learning and creative approaches to ensure learning is engaging, accessible and inclusive. You will use assessment to accelerate progress; support personal care and independence; and lead colleagues within the nurture setting. You will work closely with the SENCo, senior leaders, families and external partners to ensure timely, well-targeted support.

Key responsibilities:

  • Teach children in our Rainbow Room nurture provision (EYFS-Year 3), using a mix of targeted small group and whole class approaches.
  • Lead day-to-day organisation of the nurture room and line manage support staff attached to the provision.
  • Use assessment (including Boxall Profile and Foundation/KS1 assessments) to plan, evaluate and adapt provision so children make rapid progress.
  • Deliver high quality early years practice and a curriculum aligned to the EYFS and National Curriculum expectations for KS1.
  • Create an engaging, accessible and inclusive curriculum, using a range of strategies including sensory activities, outdoor learning and other creative approaches to support children's individual needs.
  • Implement trauma informed, attachment aware approaches and restorative practice to support behaviour and wellbeing.
  • Support children with personal care and hygiene needs sensitively and professionally where required.
  • Liaise with families, SENCo, external agencies (EP, SALT, CAMHS, LA Inclusion) and the Assistant Head (Inclusion) to secure appropriate interventions and reviews.
  • Have a working knowledge of EHCPs and other relevant documentation, ensuring these are used effectively to support successful, independent learning.
  • Maintain accurate records, contribute to review meetings and report on pupil progress to senior leaders and governors.
  • Promote a culture of high expectations, kindness and safety.

The successful candidate will be required to undergo an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. This role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, meaning that all convictions, cautions, and warnings (including those that are spent) must be disclosed. However, the amendments to the Exceptions Order 1975 (2013, 2020 & 2023) provide that certain spent convictions and cautions are 'protected' and are not subject to disclosure to employers, and cannot be taken into account. Guidance and criteria on the filtering of these cautions and convictions can be found on the Ministry of Justice website.
