Person specification

What you’ll be doing (generic responsibilities)

Depending on allocation to specific roles, post‑holders will:

  • Lead policy development, legislation, regulatory design or programme delivery
  • Provide clear, evidence‑based advice to Ministers and senior officials
  • Work with Legal Services, analysts, finance and cross‑government partners
  • Engage with local authorities, RSLs, external bodies, UK Government departments and other key stakeholders
  • Deliver high‑quality government business (MAs, briefings, correspondence)
  • Support inclusive leadership and positive team culture; some roles include line management of EO/HEO

In the event of a large number of applications, an initial sift will be conducted against the lead assessment criterion: Making effective decisions. Candidates who pass the initial sift may be progressed to a full sift or progressed straight to assessment/interview.

The roles will be offered in merit order, with the highest‑scoring candidate choosing from the available roles first.

In the event of two or more candidates having the same total score, the following list will determine a merit order. Weighting the criteria which candidate had the highest score for Experience 1, Experience 2, Making Effective decisions, Delivering at Pace and then Communicating and Influencing.

A reserve list may be held for this opportunity. Any candidate who is successful in being offered a reserve status, will remain on the reserve list for 12 months.
