Public Health Principal – Gambling Harms

Fixed Term Contract (12 months)

Ealing Council is seeking an experienced and motivated public health professional to lead our programme of work on gambling harms prevention.

This exciting one-year fixed-term role will lead the development of Ealing's first comprehensive Gambling Harms Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA). The postholder will take a population health and health inequalities approach to understanding the impact of gambling harms on local residents and communities, helping to shape future prevention, policy and commissioning priorities.

Working at Principal level, you will lead complex quantitative and qualitative analysis, undertake community and stakeholder engagement, and oversee participatory research delivered in partnership with Ealing's Health Determinants Research Collaboration (HDRC). You will play a key role in ensuring that local evidence and lived experience inform policy, commissioning and service development to reduce gambling-related harm and improve outcomes for residents.

What you will do

  • Lead the development and delivery of a comprehensive Gambling Harms JSNA.
  • Design and deliver participatory research and engagement activities in partnership with Ealing's Health Determinants Research Collaboration (HDRC), placing lived experience at the centre of the work and informing the development of the Gambling Harms JSNA and future action.
  • Analyse and interpret complex health, social and wider determinants data to identify need, inequalities and opportunities for action.
  • Build and manage strategic partnerships across a complex system.
  • Provide expert public health advice to support strategy, policy and decision-making.
  • Translate evidence into practical recommendations that support prevention, early intervention and reduction of health inequalities.
  • Represent Public Health at local, regional and national forums and contribute to wider learning on gambling harms prevention.

About you
We are looking for an individual with:

  • A postgraduate qualification in Public Health or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience of leading public health needs assessments, strategy or policy development.
  • Strong analytical skills, including experience of integrating quantitative and qualitative evidence.Experience of undertaking research, stakeholder engagement and community involvement activities.
  • Excellent communication, influencing and partnership-working skills.
  • The ability to work autonomously and provide strategic leadership within a complex environment
  • A passion for improving population health and reducing health inequalities.
