About Us:

THE EXTRAORDINARY STORY OF OVER 6000 RESTAURANTS.

Environmental Health at Westminster City Council is a world of extraordinary stories, where passionate and expert professionals go above and beyond for their colleagues every day.

Cian believes that food brings people together. His work opens his eyes to the widest range of people and places. From restaurants to hotels, cafés to bakeries, his inspections keep the public safe, and help businesses keep their doors open. And with over 6000 restaurants to explore, if there’s one thing he knows for certain, it’s that he’ll never be bored.

The Role:

As an Environmental Health Officer in the reactive service delivery team, you will help protect public health and maintain safe, well-regulated environments for Westminster’s residents, visitors and businesses.

Working within Public Protection and Licensing, you will respond to food-related service requests, complaints and risks, including food poisoning allegations, allergen incidents, unsafe practices, foreign bodies and complex food standards concerns.

You will triage requests, assess risk and public health impact, create accurate cases and make proportionate decisions about advice, engagement, education or enforcement. You will also undertake visits and inspections, provide technical advice to businesses and support formal enforcement activity where required.

This is a busy, hands-on role requiring strong communication, negotiation, de-escalation and professional judgement. You will work with council colleagues, external agencies and regulatory partners to deliver a responsive, fair and informed service.

Please refer to the Job Description for more information.

About You:

An established professional with a degree of diploma in Environmental Health — or equivalent experience — you’ll be registered with the Environmental Health Officers Registration Board. Having conducted complex food-related investigations in a previous role, you’ll have experience advising businesses on compliance, and will bring strong triage, risk-assessment, decision-making, and conflict management skills.

On a personal level, you’ll be a strong communicator, capable of keeping a cool head in busy, challenging and sensitive situations. Your professional judgement will be excellent, and you’ll be confident interpreting and applying complex legislation. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a supportive, innovative service putting Westminster’s communities first, and to supercharge your career in the process.

Westminster City Council is committed to supporting Care Leavers into the workplace. Care Leavers seeking their first job and who wish to be considered under our scheme, will automatically be invited to interview should they meet the essential criteria for the role.
