We are seeking to appoint a level 1 Caseworker for an interesting, varied and challenging role supporting the work of&nbsp;a busy planning casework team. As a&nbsp;caseworker you will have a crucial role in validating and processing a wide range of planning applications. We are looking for an individual with commitment, a high level of energy who can continue to achieve excellent performance and accuracy whilst providing a first rate level of customer service.
What you’ll do on a typical day :

<li>Answering email and telephone enquiries about planning matters</li>
<li>To process applications including allocating reference numbers, acknowledging receipt of applications, notifying neighbours and consultees and checking payments.</li>
<li>Validation of planning applications including general consultations and obtaining additional information. Liaising with agents, applicants and other stakeholders.</li>
<li>To prepare for the Planning Committee agenda and produce committee presentations, in conjunction with planning case officers and team leader.</li>
<li>To check the accuracy of reports and lists of applications prior to publishing.</li>
<li>Opening and distribution of incoming post and sending of outgoing post.</li>

About the role:
Horsham District Council is looking for a Planning Officer / Senior Planning Officer (depending on experience) to work within our Development and Building Control department. This is an additional post within the department currently funded for a fixed term period until 31 March 2027 to support the department through a period when we expect to receive a significant number of planning applications.
Horsham is an area with beautiful countryside but also significant housing pressures. We consider around 3,000 applications each year and are anticipating a significant uplift in development in the next two years following the Government’s changes to the NPPF. We work from a modern office building in Horsham Town centre where you will be working with a friendly, supportive and dedicated team.
Planning Officer:
As Planning Officer you will have demonstrable experience in managing a varied caseload of development proposals, from householder applications to equestrian and rural development proposals, small scale housing and commercial developments, and discharge of conditions. You will also have experience of providing pre-application advice and defending the Council at appeal, and be able to offer clear advice to applicants, members and the general public.

As Assistant Planning Technical Services Officer you will support the Planning Technical Services team by ensuring that all technical and administration procedures, regarding the formal registration of planning applications submitted to the council, are efficiently and accurately completed. The Planning Services &amp; Operations Manager is a crucial role in leading multidisciplinary professional officers across the Planning, Land Charges and Street Naming and Numbering teams.
In this role you will provide leadership across the technical and support services associated with the functions with a digital by default approach seeking continuous improvement as to how we provide our services to residents and stakeholders. You will be responsible for dealing with many first points of contact to the planning department ranging from general planning enquiries, freedom of information requests and land searches.

<li>Providing support and technical expertise, including deputising for the Planning Policy Manager as appropriate and supervising junior staff.</li>

What we are looking for:

<li>Educated to degree level in planning or a related discipline, and/or a post-graduate qualification in planning or a related discipline.&nbsp;Chartered Member of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) or an equivalent organisation.</li>

<li>An understanding of how to achieve results in a political environment.</li>
