Job Description

Organisation: Leicestershire County Council

Work Location: Various locations as detailed below

Salary: £25,191 to £25,590 per annum pro rata for part time) or £13.05 - £13.25 per hour (Pay award pending)

Working Hours: up to 25 hours per week (split shift) for school term time only with the opportunity for additional hours (when available).

Contract Type: Permanent and Casual

About the Role

We are currently looking to recruit a number of drivers for our Passenger Fleet Team.


Drivers are primarily responsible for transporting vulnerable adults and children with special educational needs including physical and /or learning difficulties to their School, Day Centres and other activities.

Drivers will ensure (along with the escort - where allocated) their passengers' personal wellbeing and safe/secure travel at all times, in accordance with the job description, relevant Policies, legislation, Procedures and good practice. Duties may also include transporting associated goods and services.

DRIVER

Mountsorrel – 1 x 10 hrs per week (Thur and Fri) split shift, Term time only

Mountsorrel – 1 x 25 hrs per week (Mon to Fri) split shift, Term time only

Nailstone – 1 x 10 hrs per week (Mon - Tue) split shift, Term time only

Blaby – 1 x 25 hrs per week (Mon to Fri) split shift, Term time only

Blaby – 1 x 15 hrs per week (Mon to Wed) split shift, Term time only

Loughborough – 1 x 25 hrs per week (Mon to Fri) split shift, Term time only

Croft - 1 x 25 hrs per week (Mon to Fri) split shift, Term time only

Melton – 1 x 20 hrs per week (Mon, Tue, Thur and Fri) split shift, Term time only

A DBS enhanced check for a regulated activity is required for this post.

About You

To apply for this post, you MUST have:

  • Driving Licence with minibus entitlement category D1 (minimum) or D - Full Driving Licence prior to 1/1/1997 OR post 1/1/1997

    And experience or knowledge in:
  • Driving and transporting individuals/groups of people.
  • Working face-to-face with the general public within a service provision environment providing customer care and quality services.
  • Keeping written records / documentation in a neat and tidy manner and sufficiently numerate to complete worksheets
  • Road Traffic Legislation and Highway Code
  • Able to communicate verbally with people of varying capabilities, including those with challenging behaviours
  • Ability, with training, to undertake a series of moving and handling operations associated with the transport of people and static loads
