About the team
The Environment and Energy unit is responsible for the policies and programmes related to the Mayor’s ambitions around the natural environment, climate adaptation and his net zero 2030 target. The 25-strong Climate Change team sits within this unit.
The Climate Change team leads three areas of the Mayor’s work: climate mitigation, adaptation and green finance. Climate mitigation leads on London’s net zero strategy, including our external work with partners like C40 and our internal initiatives such as climate literacy training.&nbsp;&nbsp;Adaptation includes the GLA’s work to lead London’s response to extreme heat and flood risk, as well as delivering the Mayor’s manifesto commitment around clean and healthy waterways. Green finance supports the delivery of the London Climate Finance Facility, including the £500m Green Finance Fund, and the recently announced climate finance taskforce.
About the role
This senior role will play a pivotal part in the Mayor’s ambitions towards net zero. The Head of Climate Change leads an expert team of around 25 people working across a range of disciplines. The postholder will need to support the team through periods of uncertainty and change, whilst leading a high-performing and inclusive culture.&nbsp;&nbsp;
The Head of Climate Change will need to demonstrate strong strategic leadership, policy development and programme delivery skills across a range areas. This includes overseeing delivery against the manifesto commitment to clean up London’s waterways, the Mayor’s ambitions to enable the scaling up of green finance for decarbonisation projects in London, and setting the strategy for the path to net zero by 2030.

In addition, you will be required to identify and record information relating to watercourses that will see the development and delivery of an effective programme of works.&nbsp;
Good communication skills are critical as the role will involve meetings and communications at all levels from officers within the Environment service to council members as well as negotiating with contractors and dealing with public enquiries to achieve positive outcomes in sometimes contentious and sensitive situations. You will have a technical background with extensive knowledge of how to design for appropriate drainage repairs/improvements, bank stability measures, water control methods and the knowledge of associated surveying / civils equipment and machinery necessary to maintain and repair our watercourses.

Contribution to the plans and strategies of other Council services and other sub-regional plans and strategies, in particular the Local Plan.

The Post
An exciting opportunity within Brent Customer Access has arisen in our Revenues &amp; Debt service. The successful post holder will be responsible for ensuring that all Council Tax, Business Rates, Adult Social Care Debt, Parking and Road Traffic, Sundry Debt and Housing Benefit Overpayments is billed, collected and recovered in accordance with prevailing legislation, case law, local policy and procedures.
Billing activities include for all lines of debt; identification of the correct liable parties and liability dates, nature of service provided, assessing entitlement to discounts exemptions, reduction and refunds, the maintenance of accurate billing and invoicing records for all customers, database management across all lines of revenue and debt. The successful candidate is one who can work effectively as part of a team and takes pride in their work. The Person You need to possess some knowledge and understanding of Council Tax, Business Rates, Adult Social Care Debt, Parking and Road Traffic, Sundry Debt and Housing Benefit Overpayments regulations. You need to have energy, be well organised, be positive and passionate in your approach and be able to work effectively as part of a team.
The successful candidate will need to be able to prioritise and manage their workload and ensure that team targets are achieved. Candidates need to have excellent verbal and written communication skills to engage with customers and liaise with other departments to obtain information to maintain accurate records. This is a rewarding role and offers an exciting opportunity for the right candidate.
