Overall Job Purpose:
The Customer Services Directorate are seeking to fill a customer service advisor post to work within our Customer Service Team – Our team provide a first-class service to our customers ensuring the highest standards of customer care are maintained at all times.
Services currently handled by our Customer Services Team include Cleansing; Environmental Health; Car Parks; Council Tax &amp; Business Rates; Benefits; Planning &amp; Building Control; Elections; Housing and Switchboard.&nbsp;

The successful candidate would be appointed at £31,537 per annum and the salary will rise incrementally at the start of each financial year until the top of the scale is reached.

As a Benefits Officer, you’ll be responsible for assessing new claims, changes in circumstances, and risk-based reviews. You'll give detailed advice to customers, help them access additional support, and contribute to the smooth, fair delivery of welfare benefits across both districts.
Working from our main council offices, you’ll collaborate with teams across the organisation and build strong relationships with external agencies, landlords, and government departments. Your work will directly improve household stability and financial well-being for local residents.
What You’ll Be Doing

<li>Assessing all types of Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction applications, including complex and high-value cases</li>
<li>Providing high-quality advice and guidance to customers in person, by phone, and in writing</li>
<li>Ensuring accuracy in every claim by staying up to date with legislation, circulars, and case law</li>
<li>Identifying additional benefit entitlements and signposting customers to further support</li>
<li>Handling reconsiderations, underlying entitlement reviews, cancellations, and fraud referrals</li>
<li>Managing data-matching initiatives such as VEP alerts, RTI cases and anomaly reports</li>
<li>Producing clear, written statements of reasons for all decisions made</li>
<li>Liaising with internal and external partners including landlords, DWP, the Rent Service and others</li>
<li>Supporting the wider service with ad hoc tasks and participating in ongoing training and development</li>

We are looking for a dedicated Private Sector Options Officer to join our team. In this vital role, you will support the Private Sector Options Manager in effectively managing the lifecycle of tenancies, ensuring a person-centred, preventative approach. This includes mediation with private landlords and tenants, and taking enforcement action where required.
This is a challenging but highly rewarding position where you will have day-to-day accountability for the management of Opening Doors and Private Sector Leased tenancies across the property portfolio. You will be responsible for all key areas of housing management, arrears recovery, ASB management, letting void properties, and all aspects of property and tenancy management. You will also identify and make recommendations for improvements to ensure the Council's housing offer remains competitive.

About the role:
Tenancy Management &amp; Homelessness Prevention: Effectively manage the lifecycle of a tenancy, ensuring a person-centred, preventative approach. This will include mediation with private landlords and tenants, identifying breaches, and taking enforcement and legal action where required. Work with households and in partnership with other agencies, landlords, private and public sector services to identify those at risk of homelessness early and find innovative lasting solutions to prevent homelessness and meet housing need.
Property Portfolio Management: Day-to-day accountability for the management of Opening Doors and Private Sector Leased tenancies across the property portfolio, including arrears recovery, ASB management, and letting void properties. Landlord Engagement: Engage with and establish strong partnerships with private sector landlords and their agents to support them in achieving high standards of customer care and meeting their statutory obligations. Develop positive relationships with private sector landlords to provide specialist one-to-one support and advice.
Financial &amp; Housing Solutions: Analyse income and expenditure data and complete thorough financial assessments of clients' circumstances to establish available options to access private rented sector accommodation. Support households in temporary accommodation to find suitable permanent housing by developing creative solutions

This role is within a high-performing professional team. We are therefore looking for someone with problem solving skills, communication skills, and who is calm under pressure. As a Benefits Assistant, you’ll help residents understand and manage their Council Tax Reduction and Housing Benefit claims. From assessing changes in circumstances to providing advice and support, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring the right support reaches the right people – fast and fairly.
Working closely with our Senior Benefit Team Leaders and Benefit Team Leaders, you’ll develop knowledge of key legislation, systems, and procedures, while contributing to a team that values accuracy, efficiency, and excellent customer service.
What You’ll Be Doing
<ul>
<li>Processing changes in Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction claims with accuracy and care</li>
<li>Supporting applicants by phone, email, and in person with helpful and empathetic advice</li>
<li>Liaising with internal departments and external partners (e.g. landlords, government agencies)</li>
<li>Spotting and escalating potential fraud cases</li>
<li>Supporting Benefit Assessors with general administrative tasks and customer communication</li>
<li>Keeping systems updated and completing follow-up actions on cases</li>
<li>Helping residents access wider support by signposting to relevant organisations (e.g. HERO, CAB, KCC)</li>
</ul>

&nbsp;We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Duty to Refer Homeless Intervention and Prevention Officer to join our team. This is a vital role focused on preventing homelessness by ensuring that public bodies effectively refer individuals who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless to the appropriate local housing authority. You will be at the forefront of our efforts to provide timely support to some of the most vulnerable members of our community, maintaining current partnerships and developing new ones.
About the role:
You will be the primary point of contact for public bodies in fulfilling their duty to refer for individuals at risk of homelessness, receiving and processing referrals from a range of public authorities, including social services, healthcare providers, and the justice system.
As part of the role you will conduct initial assessments to determine the urgency and nature of the housing need, ensure that all referrals are made to the correct local authority, as chosen by the service user.
You will lead liaison with public bodies on the duty to refer processes, provide guidance and establish pathways for individuals who may be at risk of homelessness.
