What’s the role?
Housing Services Directorate is looking to appoint an Accommodation Assessment &amp; Lettings Team Leader to manage a team of six Accommodation Assessment &amp; Lettings Officers responsible for offering suitable accommodation under S188 and S193 duties. Successful management of this service area will ensure we deliver a high quality, customer-focused approach to our applicants eligible for homelessness assistance and continuous improvement and efficiency in the service delivery. In addition, you will ensure officers complete S208, enforce offer of suitable accommodation, correctly undertake the discharge of duty and complete all other tasks relevant to their role.

What we’re looking for
We are seeking an experienced Accommodation Assessment &amp; Lettings Team Leader with a good working knowledge of managing a team responsible for offering accommodation under S188 and S193, Part 6 &amp; 7 of the Housing Act 1996, Homelessness Act 2002 and Localism Act 2011 and its application. You must have knowledge and understanding of the activities, functions and processes involved in offering suitable accommodation under S188 and S193 as well as issuing discharge of duty decisions.

We are ambitious with a clear strategy to deliver on our vision. This role is a critical part of delivering our vision. We are looking for a new Head of Private Sector Licencing and Home Improvement. What we’re looking for Reporting to the Director of Housing Strategy, the Head of Private Sector Licencing and Home Improvement will lead a service area that provides strategic direction for the Council’s housing improvement and assistance service and the property licensing and enforcement function. This is an area of the division with big ambition, as we have recently expanded our property licencing schemes and have seen an increase in applications from residents for support from our grants, specifically the Disabled Facilities Grant. Managing a service of up to 100 staff the post-holder will lead our ambitions to work proactively within the private rented sector to drive up standards and safety for Lewisham’s residents. With expertise in the legal framework of regulation and licensing, you’ll be at the forefront of operationalising our new licensing scheme, and will maximise their impact through innovative new approaches to engaging with our residents. You will also be responsible for utilising a home assistance grant of £2million a year to support our most vulnerable residents to live in safe and secure homes from which they can live independent lives. We’re looking for a strategic and inspirational leader, communicator and manager who can demonstrate strong experience of delivering an operational income-generating service, ideally with a background in commercial or regulatory and enforcement services as well as a strong background and experience in managing Disabled Facilities Grants services. About the Strategy &amp; Policy team

The Strategy and Policy team is responsible for the Mayor’s housing strategy for London and for developing policy across a broad range of areas including new housing supply, specialist housing, homelessness, rough sleeping, building safety and the private rented sector. In relation to new housing, the team works closely with planning and regeneration colleagues at a strategic level in the pursuit of mayoral and government ambitions for housing delivery. About the role
You will lead the Strategy &amp; Policy team to drive forward the Mayor’s priorities for housing and ensure that Londoners have access to safe, decent and affordable homes. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, you will be responsible for a team of 20 to deliver the Mayor’s Housing Strategy and respond to London’s housing crisis. You will work closely with the Deputy Mayor for Housing &amp; Residential Development and the wider mayoral team to provide advice on strategy and policy, and support broad engagement with stakeholders – especially government. You will also work closely with senior leaders across Housing &amp; Land, the GLA Group, local and national government and the wider housing sector to support delivery of key housing objectives and programmes through strategic advice, policy development and analysis. What you will be doing:
<ul>
<li>Leading and supervising the Housing Advice Team, ensuring quality advice and support for residents at risk of homelessness</li>
<li>Overseeing complex casework, ensuring legal duties are met under housing and homelessness legislation</li>
<li>Supporting officers with customer communications, statutory decisions, and urgent interventions</li>
<li>Carrying out Section 202 reviews and responding to appeals and legal challenges</li>
<li>Monitoring officer caseloads and service performance, identifying improvements and training needs</li>
<li>Working with housing providers, landlords, and support services to develop housing pathways</li>
<li>Coordinating and participating in the 24/7 out-of-hours housing advice rota (with salary supplement)</li>
<li>Keeping up to date with housing law, safeguarding responsibilities, and best practice guidance</li>
<li>Maintaining accurate and GDPR-compliant case management and service data</li>
<li>Supporting staff wellbeing, lone working arrangements, and health and safety procedures</li>

What you will bring to the role:
<ul>
<li>Strong knowledge of the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017, Housing Act 1996, and relevant guidance and case law</li>
<li>At least 3 years’ experience working within homelessness services, including decision-making on statutory housing duties</li>
<li>Ability to supervise, support, and develop staff in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment</li>
<li>Excellent communication, negotiation, and advocacy skills</li>
<li>Confidence in managing complex and emotionally sensitive cases</li>
<li>A team-focused, solution-driven, and professional approach</li>
<li>Strong IT and record-keeping skills</li>
<li>A full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle</li>

Key Accountabilities 
 
 - Responsible for delivering to a high standard the business support to ensure effective operation of the services. Including but not limited to data entry and analysis, record keeping, customer care focused reception duties, panel, meeting and event support, and understanding service specific administrative tasks. 
 - Proactively develop skills, understanding and abilities in delivering support services in order to carry out standardised processes in a consistent and efficient manner 
 - Deal professionally and effectively with all contacts from a wide range of people, using tact and discretion, assessing needs and re-directing enquiries, where appropriate. 
 - Maintain up to date knowledge to ensure effective utilisation of IT systems used 
 - Maintain accurate and effective communication with your line manager (to include the provision of reports and presentations) ensuring that they are regularly appraised of planned changes and developments 
 - Provide a front line face-to-face/telephone service to customers, making suitable referrals to other service areas where appropriate and resolving enquiries to a high standard, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction.
